My rear turn signals started malfunctioning. The left rear ceases to flash when the brake pedal is depressed, and when I turn on the right turn signal, both tail lights flash, unless the brake is applied, then only the right flashes as it is supposed to. I have replaced the bulbs, and dropped $52 on the flasher unit. Any ideas, it is an '02 4wd QD Cab?? Sure not as simple as the rigs of old.

Pull the tail lights and check the wire harness from the tail light bulbs to the main harness under the bed, on mine the wires had worn through right behind the tail light where the backup light wires cross the tail light wires.

OK, so this is what I found today. There is a wee little sealed black box on the drivers side behind the rear light assembly(anyone know what it is, resistor or fuse block I suspect). So I get to looking around for chafed or broken wires, and notice that everything seems to run into the box. I disconnected a yellow wire at a T junction with a green wire coming from the light assy. Voila, everything starts working. Now I need to figure out what the yellow wire is actually for( I do have an after market Class V hitch installed with trailer brake controller), and I need to know what the black box is?? Thanks for all of the replys.

Ok, last post on this subject. For future reference, the leetle black box is part of the trailer towing package. I guess I will have to order one tomorrow.

Little Black Box????

I have a 97 2500 in my shop manual there is no such thing showing for the trailer towing or rear lights.

BUT I do have a canopy with the THIRD Brake light which the previous owner had installed, this 3rd brake lite has a little black box, my 3rd lite dont work and I had similar problems as the wires where just crimped with those snap type thingys, with all the salt & crud the OEM wires where starting to corrode.

Soooo I just dumped the little box and reinsulated the oem wires no problem.
