My USMC son has an '85 Chevy K20 with a 12v & NV4500 in it. We replaced his semi-floater corporate 14-bolt rearend with a full-floater 14 bolt last summer & installed new brakes while doing it. I just visited him at Camp Legeune, NC and he's now having issues with his RR brake continually over self-adjusting until the shoes drag badly. It shouldn't do that even though he uses his parking brake every time he parks (which also operates the adjuster). No problems at all with the driver's side. The adjusters were replaced during the axle swap and move quite freely, but even when backed completely off , that passenger side set of shoes do not want to disengage from the drum. So I'm sending him a complete small parts kit and making sure he cleans up & re-lubes all the surfaces on the backing plate where the shoes contact, which can get grooved and prevent smooth operation (including inhibiting the possibly-weak pullback springs' action). I believe a bent backing plate can also cause the same issue. Don't know what else to try so we'll see how it works. His truck also has one of those height-sensing valves for the rear brakes, which is even more worthless since his truck has Kelderman air-link suspension in back. I told him to remove it entirely and use a short length of brake line to bypass it. Wish I could've stayed long enough to help him completely fix it. Time constraints dictated I had to settle for buying him a few tools and offering advice.
