The other day I was Channel surfing on my cable company. I came upon a show "trucks' on Power Nation. any way they were installing a transmission Cooler with 12v Fan. Then they modified the fan set up and added another cooling unit to cool the diesel fuel. I didn't see all of it but they mounted both cooling units and the 12v fan in side the frame rails. Any one else see this show or has anyone done this mod. I am thinking about adding this mod on to my 2016 Ram 2500 HD 4x4.

Here is a link for the cooling unit.http://dieselperformance.com

You would be wasting your time and money on a cooler. It just isn't needed on the new trucks.

Thank You, thinking about it your right. On a new truck it would be a waste of money, and might effect the warranty. I am not towing a lot of stuff anyway.

I added a fuel cooler on a turned vp 44 truck that would trips fuel overheat code while towing in the big grades. It solved his problem

Here are my thoughts:

1. Most should buy a factory extended warranty on these new marvels of complexities.
2. One should NOT modify anything that would cause RAM to have the slightest reason to void ones warranty.

So, drive it and enjoy it. It is everything we wanted for many years right off the dealers lot, well maybe except the shrinking fuel tank. If you want to play, then buy an used or keep your older truck and have at it!

I was thinking about changing the license plate to 4TONTRK.

For some reason, it is typical with us modern folk to feel the need to modify something any time we buy something fun or "cool". We tend to modify for the sake of modifying.
When I see posts on another forum I haunt (mtn bike related) and see someone say "Just got a new xxxxxx, what should I modify first?". I sigh and wonder.....how come you can't answer this question yourself, its your bike and only you know what component you aren't happy with.

I agree with Snoking, these trucks are amazing, not much of a reason to "upgrade" the mechanicals.

Both of you are right. $50K Plus for a truck is a bit pricey to modify with stuff that isn't really needed. The tuck is not made to be an Off Road Racing Truck. Although it is capable of going Off Road. I really think the only Modification I am going to add is a third AGM 12v Battery for my Amateur Radio Gear. And maybe some Rigid Fog Lamps and Work Lamps.
Hope you guys all have a great Thanksgiving Holiday and safe travels.

My new truck will stay stock. My wife bought me the extended warranty. I have added some appearance items and a bed cover and 5th wheel hitch. I looked under the hood and the complexity scared this "old" mechanic. Leave well enough alone.

Also the only other item that I am going to add to my Truck is the Amp Research retracting Running Boards, and maybe a Warn Winch with synthetic cable.

Before you put them on your truck, from the bottom of the truck to the ground do you know what the ground clearance was. Then after you put the Amp Research Running Board on whet is the ground clearance from the bottom of the step? I don't really have a problem getting in and out of the truck, but "She Who Must be Obeyed" is terminally short. They have two separate models of these Power Running Boards which ones did you get?

Thanks much.

I can't tell any difference in ground clearance. You can't even tell they are mounted on the truck! They tuck up under the frame. Zoom in on the attached pic.
I just contacted them, gave them all the info on my truck and they told me what I needed.
For my truck it was:
AMP Research 75138-01A - Powerstep

The amp steps do not reduce ground clearance. They have plug and play model now so the wiring has been greatly simplified. They are also coming with led lights standard. Just a heads up there are 2 wires that are very similar in color-pat attention to the tracer colors

My question is....."what is the distance from the bottom of the kick plate or skid plate on the bottom of the truck, to the ground. Then what is the distance from the bottom of the Amp Research step to the ground.
I know that the steps do not interfere with the ground clearnce. May be I should ask or say how far does the Amp Research step lower from under the truck?

Given the most of us are not going 4 wheeling(how would you un-stick a 4 ton truck), I think the trucks look better with running boards hanging there vs running naked. Snoking

I'll get you some measurements and report back.

I'll admit Snoking, they may look purdy, but I get in and out of my truck dozens of times a day. For me it was a safety issue!

Besides, I don't mind running naked as long as no small children are around! (LOL just kidding)
I actually get a lot of people coming up to me amazed at the technology of the power running boards.
They think it's "slick"! As do I!

I completely agree. I have no issue with my factory running boards nor does my 5' 2" wife.
