How have some of you guys removed the 3500 emblems on the doors and the DODGE sticker on the tailgate? I would like to but am worried about messing up the paint.

Jason,

I removed both my DODGE and 4x4 stickers from the tailgate on a hot summer day at the carwash, come in on an angle and they will peel off with little effort, then when I got it home I used mosquito spray and a rag to get the glue off followed by soap and water. Then the important part I got hold of TDR member ** ICEMAN**and ordered what I wanted to put on there! He can make whatever you want and the quality is excellent.

Cheers, Kevin

Do you mean at an angle with a razor blade? I just PM'ed ICEMAN about some replacements. I saw a few in his readers rig section. I had seen so me another member on here had but for the life of me can not find them anymore. Maybe ICEMAN has some more other than what is listed in his readers rig section. How about using a hairdryer to heat it up?

a little heat does the trick on removing the graphics.

i use a product called GOO GONE to remove the glue left behind after the graphic's and badges are off. WD-40 works too.

then use a cleaner/wax or light rubbing compound.

Don't forget If your truck is not new when you pull the stickers off the paint will be brighter were the sticker was. I can still read Dodge 4x4 on my tailgate and the sickers have been off almost 2 years.

i recently removed the graphics that were on the sides of my truck for 2 years to install a new design and the difference your talking about can be taken care of.

first you need to remove the glue film that was left under the dodge 4x4 with GOO-GONE.

then use meguires fine or medium cut cleaner on your gate.

i use medium cut .

try it !!

That fishing works. I just took one I put on my tailgate off that I put on when the 03 was new. And its cheap.

How old was your truck when you did it? What color is your truck? Does your truck sit outdoors all the time?

Just some questions about it - I've got a metallic charcoal and I wouldn't think it would have any paint fading yet.

We had a black 99 and after 2 years removed some of the badging and there was a noticeable difference in color. Goo Gone works great, we also used McGuire's to finish.

No razorblades though, the chances of marring are fairly great unless you have the steadiness of a surgeon. ;)

Schu777- My truck is patriot blue, it was 8 months old at the time I removed them, and its parked outside.

ICEMAN- I'm gonna try a medium cut cleaner. I'll letyou know if it works, thanks.

Use an Eraser!

I went through this exercise while getting ready to paint. I wanted to remove the emblems, but not damage the paint to the point where pits had to be filled.

I bought several stiff plastic putty knives, broke a few, and resorted to a stiff steel scraper to (carefully and patiently) remove the thick stuff, like the SLT & 2500. I was able to peel off most of the decal sort of stuff. Then I bought two products that chuck into a drill. They are called "erasers" and variations on that name. The "erasers" look like beige rubber sanding pads. They zap the residual goo from the thick emblems, and will remove residual decals. A decent automotive paint store will have them, at about $10 each. I needed two, as they are designed to wear out fast and not damage the paint.

Be patient. The eraser will leave a cloudy surface that looks bad, but it will wipe right off. The eraser is also used by people who want to remove emblems without repainting, and don't want to soften the paint with solvents.

medium cut is very gritty and it is recommended that a rotorary buffer be used. i have used it by hand but it may leave swirls and light scratches. mequires swirl remover(very fine cut) will take care of that.

test the medium cut on a small area first and follow the directions on the bottle and you'll be fine. also,,lots of tips/instructions on mequires website.
