I am trying to help a friend out with a slight problem with his 16 yr old son's '96 12V/Auto short bed (Gift from family member)#@$%! . The "new" truck had an interesting Holset turbo housing with no ID tag (I am told it is an H2E turbocharger, stock compressor, smaller exhaust wheel). Needless to say the turbo shaft broke in half last week:{ , requiring a replacement turbo. The problem is the engine has a number of modifications:

370 Injectors

Ported and polished head

New valve seat

Refinished block and head (?)

60 lb valve springs

4K gov springs

Removed fuel plate (160 pump ?)

Marine Head Gasket

Head Studs

4" down pipe

No Wastegate

After all of this, can anyone please suggest the best solution to getting this truck on the road again from a reliability, economical perspective ? I have recommended replacing the fuel plate, finding a used stock turbocharger, and a stock set of injectors.

Thanks in advance.

Get a plate in the pump, and some cooler injectors- maybe some 215s. ALso, do you have any gauges in the truck? I didnt see mention of them. Get a pyrometer and boost gauges in there ASAP. WHat kind of power are you looking for? Is your friend's son mature enough to handle 7-800ft-lbs of torque? If not, put him back to stock until he matures (If he does; some in here are 40+ and still like to hotrod).

The port and polish on the head and valve springs shouldnt make any difference in economy or reliability, and the increased flow may help keep boost pressure and temps down. The valve springs will keep the valves where they belong when topping 3400RPM.

Daniel,

I omitted the truck has a full set of gauges. No specific power level, just want to get the truck back on the road. I won't comment on the young man's level of understanding.

Thanks for your assistance.

I have to ask, is Broussard's still serving crawfish ?
