Looking at getting 4 inch exhaust for my truck. Looking at Rip's 4 inch alumized with the muffler. I am thinking with muffler because I tow with this truck. I was curious how this setup would compare in noise to say a stock exhaust straight piped. Want a good sound, just not overbearing and with drone to drive me out of the cab. Thanks

I have Rip's 4" with muffler and installed it myself and I have been very satisfied with it. Has a distinct sound but not offensive or overly loud. I would recommend it to anyone. I pull camp trlr and/or horse trailer and have never had anyone say anything negative about the sound ( including the wife).

A reg. cab. has its advantages drone-wise as you don't have the extra cab behind you to conduct muffler noise. You should be fine with any of the reputable aftermarket suppliers. My 4" Jardine has been great for six years now. The identical system in a 2000 QC had a noticible drone. Go for it!

I have Rip's 4 inch setup - from the turbo on back - it uses his straight thru muffler, and this anti-drone section ahead of it, also a straight thru unit - absolutely NO drone, and sounds great!

I got the 4" Rip Rook. I think the sound in the cab is close to stock when running empty and a little louder chugging up a hill with a load. My wife drove the truck to work and I was in the yard as she went down the street, it sounded goooood! It also keeps the EGT's below 1250 when chugging up a hill with a load when the stock exhaust would be heading towards 1400. Good fit, install was uneventful except the tailpipe ended up close to the spare tire. I wrapped it with header wrap so I would not worry about it. I probably could have positioned it differently and avoided the situation.

Damn... ... ... that's a good idea. I ran into the same problem when I installed mine. I played with it before tightening the clamps but could not get more than 0. 25 inch clearance. I think I will wrap mine too as long as the wrappings don't contact the tire and wear a hole in it. How thick is the header wrap?

I had the same problem after switching to the 285 TOYOS - spare tire clearance was only about 1/4 inch. I made an aluminum sandwich with a flat piece of square TV dinner tray type material with a half dozen inner layers of regular foil inside, then used large hose clamps to hold it in place to the exhaust pipe - it's actually wedged in between the pipe and the tire - but no heat gets thru to the tire even in long mountain grades towing the RV, and it hasn't moved yet.

I've run rips 4inch on both my 24v and my old 12v. On the 12valve I originally ran the stock exhaust straight piped, then went to a 4inch straght pipe with the stock down pipe, and then to rips kit because the drone was too much. Rips kit with the muffler was awesome. Lets just say this, two days before I picked up my 24v. I had rips 4inch kit sitting in my shop waiting. I love the sound and the price is great. With that said, I'm thinking of switching to the 5in straight. My buddy ran that on his truck which was set up similar to mine, and that truck sounded like nothing I've ever heard before, and noise in the cab wasn't bad either. The 5inch is a bit louder though. I have no hesitation in recommending his 4inch kit.

Sounds like no complaints. Who'da thought the cheapest exhaust around would be so good. Noise wise, how does it sound outside compared to stock stright piped? Both sound and volume?

Mine, even with the added anti-resonator section, is slightly louder and mellower than stock - sounds great!
