I am new to the automatic world, and my first auto is a full dtt, it is a 47rh built for me by bill. It has an 89Race converter and billet input and 3rd drum. It is behind a 24 valve motor with twins and don M Mach sevens and a drag comp. Haven't had it on a dyno but it is alot stronger than my 12valve that dynoed at 490. The questions I have is what kinda rpm drop do you guys see at full throttle when the transmission upshifts? I can't tell for sure but it seems that I am only dropping about 300 rpms when it shifts form 2nd to drive,3300 down to 3000. Also is it okay to lock up the converter when it is under heavy load? I am not sure but it seems like I may have blown through my lockup tonight. I had just shifted to overdrive and rolled into the throttle it seemed to be slipping the converter a little so I locked it and I couldn't tell for sure(it is hard to notice all the details when the speedo is rapping around so fast it looks like it might break!) but it didn't seem to pull the rpms down as much as normal so I let off cause I didn't want to blow through the converter. I may just be paranoid? It feels wierd to me not to have the solid feel like the 5 and six speeds that I am used to. I guess what I am asking is how can you tell if you are pushing through the converter in or out of lockup? Thanx in advance! P. S. pics of the truck with this motor and trans are over on the conversions forum under 69 chevy Pics.
