As you can see from my sig, I now have an '06 G-56 in my 12-valve '98. Does this transmission have the same vibration/rpm issues that made the NVG4500 famous?

If so, what R's should I run at? I don't "lug", but, I don't also want a false sense of security by running at a smooth, but, too-slow RPM.

it does not make any difference on the g56. but you do need to run one quart over full to lube and cool the front bearing. it holds 6 quarts pour the seventh in the shifter. blend one gallon of synthetic syncromesh sae50 with three quarts 5w30 synthetic syncromesh. your 98 12 valve is the best of any truck made up to the cr's and possibally them to. is your g56 the tighr ratio from a 06-07. 4 or a long ratio from a 6. 7

Same as the 24V. Keep them out of the harmonics zone and don't run them under 1800 rpms or it will mess with the clutch and drive train.

They are a stronger trans but its not going to make a difference if you try to lug them.

1800 rpm in town? that would be a bit of a howl, and in 5th would get me some speeding tix here in Corpus Christi

It's from a rolled '06 chassis cab 4x4. Don't have any damn idea about all the ratios, to be quite honest. Didn't even realize there were two versions of the same transmission. Do know that I don't use 1st very much, and that my shifts are so close that I sound like a dump truck, and that if I lay on it, I can eject an air-turd 1/4mile long in either 4th or 5th, and that doing that in 6th gets me to tire-balance bouncing speed pretty damn promptly.

Ram didn't build a chassis cab in '06. If the donor truck had a flatbed or service body it was just a pickup with bed removed.

Ya got 6 gears find the one that puts you between 1500 and 1950 for the speed your driving. DON"T LET IT LUG and it will live a long happy life. Oh Yea, also use Pensoil Syncomesh (SP?)fluid as others have said in many threads and also in the TDR.

No CC for '06? Why Dodge drop and add stuff? Was hearsay from my custom guy who had the transmission upstairs at his shop.

I don't know why but can speculate. A C&C uses a different frame. Gen II Rams did offer a C&C although they weren't real common. It appears that Ram did not develop another C&C until mid-year 2007 ie 2007. 5 when the new ISB6. 7 was introduced along with the Ram 3500 C&C with a very different frame, detuned engine, Aisin automatic, and lots of other features.

Trucks built from 2003 through 2007 did not offer a C&C but a few owners removed their beds and installed flatbeds or service bodies.

My buddy has the later version of the G56 ( 2008 ) behind a 96 12 valve in a 93 W350 service truck. He loves the power and gearing setup. He uses the South Bend Con OFE clutch. Shad

I remember seeing an '08 C/C on the lot and noticed that the frame looks to be about 12" high right behind the cab. Just a random comment...

Yeah, I think the frame members are larger and stiffer but the most significant difference is C&Cs have a frame like a MDT or HDT - 34" spacing, flat rails, and nothing exposed above the rails. The C&C also has a 52 gallon rear mounted fuel tank between and below the rails.

I've been very pleased with mine. It rides a little stiffer but doesn't sag under load like a dully pickup does. It also doesn't accelerate as briskly but is has accelerated past all the dealerships for over 100k miles. I've never experienced the sooting issues like the pickup versions did in the earlier years of the 6. 7 engine.
