Ruger 10-22

I have a new 10-22 and the trigger is difficult to pull. I've put the 3 lightweight spring kit in it and the firing pin marks are fine. Is the a way to polish the sear area? I dont want to polish the wong direction. Thanks

Your trigger pull difficulties may not be from the sear. The little plunger & spring behind the trigger may be rough, or the area where this plunger contacts the back of the trigger may be rough. Look there first.

As for the sear, everything that I have been told is that the angles need to be maintained - don't round the edges.

I used a buffing wheel on a dremel tool just to polish the area slightly.



I am not a gunsmith, this is just my own experience.



If all else fails, take it into a gunsmith, it shouldn't cost much to have one go through it.

we have had a 10-22 in the past and we had no trouble with the trigger, must be something new..... Very sweet gun, I like the 10 shot magazine... do they still have that square clip? I learned to shoot on it when I was a kid... . and a Ruger 357 magnum revolver which dad still has.

The 10-22 is one of the best. The little plunger feels smooth, I remove the hammer to test it. I think I might take it to a gunsmith because I dont want to experiment on it. Knew a guy once (not me) who made a . 22 full auto by polishing away on the sear (?) He was so scared he took it apart and took it in pieces to the gunsmith to fix, made 2 or three trips so he would have all the pieces :-laf

They make drop-in replacement triggers, Volquaresson (sp?) for one. Check out Cabela's catalog.



My 10--22 was one of the first years production and has a great (to me anyway) trigger pull, but one bought many years later for my Dad, has a lousy pull from the factory (guess the liability situation??) may have created this.

I'm running the trigger kit from Cabela's in my 10/22 and in my case it smartened it right up. Very easy to install and been trouble free for 4 years.

Tejas, was that a tube feed . 22 that went full auto? It doesn't take long to go through a brick of . 22 ammo when your . 22 fires full auto. Especially if you have some pumpkins to shoot. Of course, I've never experienced this, just telling what I've heard.



Best bet is to bring it to a gunsmith. It sounds like the trigger just needs to be cleaned. I've sold a lot of . 22's, and there's always one that slips by with a bad trigger. Shoot safe, and have fun with your new purchase.

I have a 10-22 that I bought almost thirty years ago. I've customized it and recently put a stainless barrel on it. I also installed the Volquartsen target hammer with spring replacement. The trigger pull is now much better than before, light but still safe with no creep at all. Only problem I have now is that there is still too much travel in the trigger after it releases, needs a target trigger with set screw. That's my next project when I get the time. I converted mine to full auto a long time ago. It was fun exept it would only shoot 8 to 12 rounds before misfeeding one, (not a good thing with rimfire ) so I un-did my BOMB.

I got a 10-22 in target grade [factory heavy barrel,laminated stock]. For those of you who are considering buying a 10-22,it sure is easier buying one that is already bombed. It holds rock steady and has a sweet trigger.
