Hohn, I don't like Rush Limbaugh. I think he's a blowhard that never shoulda been hired by ESPN, because what does he know about sports? That said, I agree that what he said wasn't racist. His opinion was a statement about the media, and I'm not certain he's wrong on it. I may disagree that Donovan McNabb is overrated, but I see no problem with Rush Limbaugh having that opinion. I think Rush Limbaugh, in this instance, is being pilloried more for the fact that HE said these things, not for what exactly he said. Trent Lott, now, I believe may have just a bit of racism in what he said, and I believe his resignation as Majority Leader was the right thing to do.

Rush is VERY literate in sports! Not just in football but also professionally- He used to work for the KC Royals. I feel that he is more than qualified for ESPN, not just as a fan.

Hohn, I was typing as you were posting your second post. As to the drug allegations, I think the timing is coincidence. Maybe him being on ESPN at all made him a bigger target of investigation?

As to the rest of your post, I've been saying precisely the same things about President and Senator Clinton for years. Hear hear!

Didn't know that - thought it was another Dennis Miller hiring. I still think he's a blowhard - but he's being wrongly pilloried in this situation.

Yes indeed. While I think Rush may be a LITTLE extreme in his belief that the Dems/ Left are all about controlling the masses, it is something worth pondering; they seem more inclined toward government micromanagement of our personal lives and our dependence on govt than the conservatives. And have you noticed that the conservatives are on the "right"? Coincidence? I think not.

NETim- very well put a half dozen or so posts back.

loncray & rickman- if death in gross numbers is an indication of how bad a president is, Abe Lincoln is at or near the top, along with FDR. I am not saying I believe the "list" but I am also not real quick to discount it. The Clintons are some bad- a$$ people. Now I see why no one took a shot at him- anyone who would have done it was on his payroll :)

Unless there is a major breakthrough, great quote worth requoting, or someone wants me to elaborate on something I said, I think I will bow out of this thread. I've said all I want to say for now.

Daniel

Well, Loncray, I have to admit that there's a lot of Trent Lott that's still a 'good ol boy" from the sticks. I find myself agreeing with a lot of the other stuff you posted. He may have some latent rascism. But you can't make that assertion stick based on what he said at that birthday party.

Speaking of-- what the Heck is wrong with the people of SC who vote for tyhe same guy for 50 years??? Sheesh! I can't think of anyone who I would be comfortable trusting when they are nearing 100 years old.

HOHN

I see where Rush has admitted an addiction to pain killers and is checking into a 30 day treatment center. I just wonder if the media will cut him as much slack as they do for thier contemporaries. I am waiting to hear them make excuses for him.

"Poor Rush, He has so much stress and after all he is human. With all that he has gone through. The stress of being in radio and losing his hearing. The chores of running a nationaly syndicated show, yadda... He does need some down time from all his rigors. We cannot hold this against him, he's only human you know. "

I doubt it. Hypocritical media.

I wish the guy luck on beating his addiction. If he was illegally obtaining them, he needs to stand trial.

I don't blame the media for this - they didn't put the pills in his mouth. I don't think they ought to be cutting any celebrity any particular slack for drug addiction - it's their job to report this sort of thing.

Hohn, I agree about SC and electing 100 year old people - the guy was falling asleep in hearings for years! I guess they kept electing Strom 'cause his staff kept things running well. And I agree that what Trent Lott said at that party by itself isn't enough to make a charge of racism - but there were other incidents that, taken together, might just prove it.

not blaming the media here...

I am not blaming the media. Just wondering if they will cut him sympathy slack like they do for others whose ideals are similar to thiers.

One name come to mind: Darryl Strawberry.

Or what about the media pass that they gave to ex POTUS Bill:

"... but I never inhaled... "

Just wait- the media is going to crucify Rush.

Un fair in my opinion.

(EDIT: spelling correction -fjk)

It saddens me to no end to hear that the allegations of drug abuse by Rush are true. I hope that he can beat it.

Regardless, Rush has articulated conservative principles and ideals as well as anyone I know. I am hoping he makes a comeback, personally and professionally. We need more talk hosts that make people think!!!

And naturally, he should pay for any laws he broke. I just hope they don't come down as hard on him as they did on good ol' Teddy Kennedy. (D-Chappaquidick) :)

Tim

Don't

I don't agree with the mans political views, but do respect his honesty and straightforwardness in telling his listeners about his problem and seeking help. More power to him. :D

So far they haven't, no doubt it'll fade away in a couple days.

I personally wouldn't mind him being fed back some the same crap he's dished out for years though.

I believe very few among us, have not, uh, er, well, lets say, "self medicated" ourselves,At one time or another.

I have always thought, if Clinton would have just said, "Hey, it was the 1960s, damn straight I had a toke or two. "

It would have been forgotten.

Addiction sucks, hope he can beat it. Lucky for him it DID come out, before it was too late.

Here is one I agree with

Love him or loath him, he nailed this one right on the head... ... ... ... .

By Rush Limbaugh:

I think the vast differences in compensation between

victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die

serving the country in Uniform are profound. No one

is really talking about it either, because you just

don't criticize anything having to do with September

11. Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by

because it says something really disturbing about the

entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a

family member in the September 11 attack, you're going

to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a

minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4. 7

million.

If you are a surviving family member of an American

soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a

$6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable.

Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are

the

surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you

remarry. And there's a payment of $211 per month for

each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those

payments come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting

an average of $1. 185 million up to $4. 7 million are

complaining that it's not enough. Their deaths were

tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong

place at the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in

harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families

know the dangers.

We also learned over the weekend that some of the

victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an

organization asking for the same deal that the

September 11 families are getting. In addition to

that, some of the families of those bombed in the

embassies are now asking for compensation as well.

You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this

is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement

politics in this country. It's just really sad.

Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they

usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the

green machine is in combat in the Middle East while

their families have to survive on food stamps and live

in low-rent housing. Make sense?

However, our own U. S. Congress just voted themselves a

raise, and many of you don't know that they only have

to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that

is more than $15,000 per month, and most are now equal

to being millionaires plus. They also do not receive

Social Security on retirement because they didn't have

to pay into the system.

If some of the military people stay in for 20 years

and get out as an E-7, you may receive a pension of

$1,000 per month, and the very people who placed you

in harm's way receive a pension of $15,000 per month.

I would like to see our elected officials pick up a

weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out

benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters

who are now fighting.

"When do we finally do something about this?" If this

doesn't seem fair to you, it is time to forward this

to as many people as you can. If your interested there

is more... ... ... ... ... ... .....

This must be a campaign issue in 2004. Keep it going.

SOCIAL SECURITY: (This is worth the read. It's short

and to the point. )

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during

election years. Our Senators and Congressmen do not

pay into Social Security. Many years ago they voted

in their own benefit plan. In more recent years, no

congressperson has felt the need to change it. For

all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay

until they die, except it may increase from time to

time for cost of living adjustments. For example,

former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their

wives may expect to draw $7,800,000 - that's Seven

Million, Eight Hundred Thousand), with their wives

drawing $275,000. 00 during the last years of their

lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $00. 00. These

little perks they voted for themselves is free to

them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan.

The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly

from the General

Fund--our tax dollars at work! >From our own Social

Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into

-- every payday until we retire (which amount is

matched by our employer) --we can expect to get an

average $1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in

other words, we would have to collect our average of

$1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one month to

equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small

change were made. And that change would be to jerk

the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the

Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social

Security plan with the rest of us and then watch how

fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of

awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will

evolve. WE, each one of us... can make a difference. .

Well to all you left wingers out there... . just one question. Do yall like paying taxes? Don't like tax cuts? I am just wondering. If you do please right me a check to help pay my taxes. As far as Rush's statements about blacks. I think it is AWESOME!! Somebody is actually advocating fairness instead of thinking blacks are still suffering b/c their great great great great grandfather were enslaved.

I don't think Rush was saying squat and the whole thing was blown out of proportion.

Face it, black athletes are better they don't need the media giving them unwarranted credit, they just haven't learned to play hockey yet.

Champ flight....

Only one thing I see wrong in there.

I'm working with someone who is a retired master chief (Navy) and he gets $1800. 00 a month.

Eric

Patriot, master chief is an E-9... Rush's lil quote was just a Chief, or an E-7. Albeit i don't think there is an 800 dollar difference between the two... . doesn't matter anyway, Rush is right.

AMEN! It's such a novel idea, but having someone in a position to take a stand finally is long overdue. The bleeding-heart left has had too much influence on the media for too long and we see more and more rights given away because of them. I for one see the cultural genocide of my culture (give you one guess as to the one I'm referring to) every day thanks to the liberals, the media, and the black racist groups in this country thinking they have some right to say their heritage is OK, but my heritage should be eradicated.

OK I'm off my soapbox for now.
