Duh

I would get a ford before a chevy, ford could you sponser me a crew cab diesel 4x4 for me, I will write how great it is, how it hauls the family around and then use my CTD DODGE when I need to TOW something:p Sam should probably go:rolleyes:

Take Sam out of the TDR. I felt this way before his D/M "purchase". I found his column poorly done. Sam may have an excellent knowledge about cars and trucks, but his column was, in my opinion, very pooly done and way too self-promoting. In the last TDR, we got to read all about the history of his newest TV program what network it will be on. What does that have to do with Cummins/ Dodge? Surprised TDR hierarchy folks allowed that, but guess they wanted the celebrity aspect. Remember a year or so when he was was too busy and his column did not appear in the TDR, don't feel like I missed a thing. Though you have to give him credit, he's apparently making a good living doing what he enjoys. Just my opinion.

I agree with crow and many others about sams column , I thought it was a useless waste of ink and paper from the first issue I received . Every single article starts out with mention of his TV shows or his workload and next comes "my lovely wife Diana" mentioned at least three times throughout . I could careless about sams personal life especially in a magazine that is eagerly received once every 3 months , Talk about -TRUCKS , ACCESSORIES FOR TRUCKS , CUMMINS UPGRADES , RELEVANT STUFF . There is a show on TNN every Sunday called Trucks, which in my opinion is light-years ahead of Shade tree mechanics as far as useful info and just pure enjoyment watching it . Sams articles are much like his show ... . Useless . In one issue it mentions that sam lives in the Atlanta area, which is pertinent info again , Great I'll have to stop by for some lemonade next time I’m in the neighbourhood . As long as celebrity corner is in the issues I'll just keep bypassing It . Here an Idea , Lets get Tim "The toolman" Taylor I'll bet he would be very entertaining... I can honestly say he would and probable could stuff the 8. 3 in our trucks. . wouldn't that be worth reading... ... :D :D

If there has to be a 'celebrity corner', why not have it be on a rotational basis. Like maybe a Master technician from a Cummins truck shop, or maybe someone that is from the engineering, new programs, or marketing areas within Cummins Engine Co? What better way to get information that CTD owners would like to read about? I too am rally not all that interested about TV shows, motorhomes, or fluffy the cat. I want to know SPECIFICALLY about CUMMINS OR DODGE TRUCKS! I even was a little turned off by the articles in the past few issues about the 2003 ram 1500 gas powered trucks. I could pick up motor trend or car & driver and read about the gassers all day! Hey, how about featuring some other equipment powered by the B series Cummins? Not a long article, but maybe a short feature? I'd even enjoy reading about a sewage pump that was powered by a Cummins over some thinly veiled info-mercial. Heck, Sam looks a little to clean when getting done working on a vehicle to be real. I often wondered if they just do the final tightening of the bolts for the camera, and have a couple of full time mechaincs do all the work when the camera is shut-off? AQnd all the nice new and fancy tools are a little out of place too. How many people have a hoist in their garage and all the special tools? I have tools, but get creative with wood blocks, pipes, old tools, etc. to get the job done. The show should be titled "$hadetree mechainic". Also, Sam's sidekick, Dave doesn't really seem to be very mechanically inclined. Maybe he's the 'salesman' of the two? I think having Sam continue to do articles in the TDR magazine would be kinda like having a proctologist doing surgery for a vacationing neurosurgeon. Both are doctors, but work at completely opposite ends!

Have I been living under a rock??? What, Sam is a celebrity??????

Did you see the crap in the latest TDR about replacing the carpet?? Big Whoop de doo!! Get him out of the TDR!

I doubt he would be that well recieved , no different than anyone else selling there Chevy for a Dodge . Its not the fact that he bought a Chev and sold his Dodge , But the way it was done . many of us can respect a persons right to decide what they want to try next . But don,t write issue after issue about how I love midnight , how many more years I'm gonna keep midnight , yada , yada , yada , bla , bla , bla what a load of crap

Midnite-gate... the only honorable thing to do is resign.

Maybe the CUMMINS was gettin' to be TOO MUCH for the OLD GEEZER.

Time to start driving a truck that thinks it's a CADDY. :p ;)

Not for me. :D

BTW who pays the bills for the studio, the air time, the shop tools, etc. and gives him a truck to drive on top of it.

GM's gotta find SOME WAY to move the trucks off their lots.

Maybe there gonna keep GIVIN' 'EM AWAY:D :D

I am 50 years old but the aches & pains go away every time I fire up the Cummins:D

When I picked up my new truck, a really old farmer got in his 1st gen. Cummins. As I often do, I asked him how many miles on the odometer . He said she's got a he!! of a lot more than me!

This truck looked like he pushed trees over with it-- just all banged up. When he fired it up it sounded just like a new one.

That's when I knew I made the right decision in buying this truck;)

My opinion on sam is I couldnt give a rats a$$. Never seen the show or read his articles anyhow.

My opinion on the D-Max is I sure am glad I own a Cummins. I like chevys always have. In fact I own one but the D-max isnt what I would choose for a diesel.

I just wanted to share this with you I kinda chuckled. I hear about complete failures of the D-maxes locally(sorry no vins). A longtime friend of mine works for a tow company. He wound up towing a nice new D-max the other day. He said it wasnt the first and that it most definitley wouldnt be the last. The man was absolutely irate. He is sueing everyone from the tow company to the dealership. He cant believe he got a 45 thousand dollar lemon and is lashing out at anyone within spitting distance.

All manufacturers have lemons even the almighty cummins.

I hear quite a bit through the grapevine and was told that the local chevy dealer has a 40 ft trailer with heads in it to replace the failing ones on the D-max. It sounds outlandish so until I see it I will assume its BS.

I am guilty of trying to convince my pops into buying a D-max cause he really really dislikes dodge. I think they are probably mechanically comparable truck wise to the DC product but Im willing to bet half a months wage that their average life to rebuild will be 100k or more less than the cummins. If they had stuck the isuzu motor in it there would probably be one in my front yard and I wouldnt be a TDR member but they had to go and add all that alluminum to a proven engine.

The poll was shut down. And here we keep sliding back into Cummins vs. Diddlemax blab.

The question before the court is:

Do we want the TDR to keep paying Sam Memmolo for articles to publish in the TDR?

Without rehashing the reasons-like it's not BEcause he has a chivvie-

I don't.

He's in the same boat as Bob Villa (This Old House, and whatever his latest show is called) Paid Pitchmen. ;)

Bob kills me when after pounding ONE nail he anounces how WE just finished shingling a 20 room mansion. :-laf :-laf

They're good at what they do(they make a heck of alot more $$$$ than me!)... ... . just make sure you take everything they tell you in context.

You're right, Bob Vila couldn't hammer in two nails in a row if he tried. I read his background and it's all in architechure, no building experience at all. Anyway, I always liked Sam and his show. Hope his new D'max is awesome. Personally, I wouldn't have one and in the back of my mind I THINK they'll prove out to be less than desireable but that's just my opinion. Love my Cummins and that's all that counts!!

The air is just thin up there in the Big Sky:D :D :D :D

This is reason #361 why I don't pay much attention to any of these folks who get free stuff. The one who just posted about his ATS, and one who has a BD ok, seems to be upfront; but two out of how many?

Hey Chris,

My woman drives the Dodge Cummins with the NV5600. Even pulls the 5er at 16,300 lbs. combined. It's a fine sight to see:D. No Dmax here...

If Sam won'ts to cross the street, fine. But don't expect us to fallow his column or show. I might have still watched his show except his involvement with TDR makes him much less credible to me now.
