When you turned the key off, all injection stopped instantly. Remember that injection is electronically controlled.

Got it started. My starter went out and sure did pick a good spot! HOME! VP44 should be in tomorrow, i have dont alot of reading on the replacement so hope it all goes well!

Sure does im fine with replacing parts, long as it does it at home and not the middle of no where! haha Oh well the more parts i replace the less parts i should have to worry about replacing for a while.

I got the new vp44 in today, WOW my truck runs so much better! Problem is, my miss is still there now at idle. What is the next step? Im thinking of taking it to the dealer in the morning. The miss does seem better than it was but i can still hear it. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

How about a valve adjustment and are you sure you've got the timing set properly? Also, I think the crank position sensor that can go bad on those.

valve adjustment was in spec before vp44 install, timing should be set properly because it did this before the vp44 install. I am gonna get codes run @ autozone tomorrow and maybe order a new cps.

hey buddy i had much the same issue going with a slight miss at idle. I have an airdog system and a new blue chip vp44, and while the truck ran well that annoying miss was still there. I pulled my injectors and found three tips that were fouled , cleaned and reinstalled them. It ran better still but still the pesky miss. I ended up putting a helix cam in some months ago and decided the truck was already half torn down so i decided to pull the head and have the valves reground. Thats where my problem lay both valves guides in no. three cylinder were way oversize. The shop couldent tell if they were worn or drilled that way. Anyway he rebored the guide hole sleeved and reamed them to correct size. the guy has been doing heads for forty five years and he said that there was so much slop between the valves and guides the would not always seal correctly ergo small miss. I also found that several of my rocker shaft assemblies were so galled they were almost frozen. so i replaced them too. Anyway the truck purrs like a kiy now no miss and I just went from tracy ca to massachusetts and got over twenty three mpg. i hope this helps you diagnose your issue. one suggestion work from the cheapest to the most expensive fix . good luck Earl S.

Thanks i have been trying to find a built head with o rings and all so i can just swap if it is the problem but havent had luck yet. I appreciate the reply Earl and will try a few more cheaper things and if they dont fix it, get a new head or mine fixed.

Just towed my 8k lb trailer today and it runs great until i hit a long grade up hill and the power is kind of "in and out" with the pedal in the same position. It has a new APPS on it but kind of feels like i let off and then give it throttle again. I can also watch fuel pressure go up when this happens and egts go down. Anyone know what else would cause this? Is it injector problems or maybe there is something wrong with my valves and guides? Also is it cheaper to get my head fixed or just to buy a built one? I have seen new ones for $1000 but thats stock and if i am going to have to get a new one, i want aftermarket.

Sounds like an electronic issue. Maybe with the new VP you need to "reset" the APPS. I forget the procedure exactly but as I recall you disconnect the batteries a few hours, then reconnect. Cycle key to ON but don't start it, and smoothly press throttle pedal to floor and smoothly release it fully, and repeat two more times. Then shut off key. This essentially reprograms it. If I don't remember right how to do it hopefully someone else will chime in.

Ok i will try that in the morning. Another thing i noticed driving today is it would "high idle" after sitting but the temp was at operating temp. I have my adrenaline tune with high idle but it used to only do it on startup until it got to 170*. Hope this is the apps i will get ahold of timbo tomorrow if the reset doesnt work and get one of his. I have noticed reading here that sometimes the high idle is a APPS problem too? Thanks for all the help will keep you posted!

Got the codes scanned again i got

121 (think its left over from before the vp was just replaced)

341 (is this my "miss" problem?)

1690 (crank sensor signal is this the same as 341?)

Thanks for the help guys let me know if you think my sensor is bad, sure would be nice to not have to remove the head!
