Whats the best way to go about hunting down a truck? Im lookig at getting a new 09 Mega Cab, if the bank comes through for me (theyre being real sticklers on new vehicles) so I may have to get used

The thing is, Im looking for a VERY specific truck. Im looking for an Electric Blue MegaCab, 4x4, G56, 5. 9/6. 7. The G56 is the biggest holdup, as that automatically disqualifies 95% of the trucks right off the bat. Id prefer new, but a lower mile used rig wouldnt be bad. Anybody know where a new or used one is sitting on a dealer/used car lot??

I currently have dibs on a black 09 Mega, but would REALLY prefer the Electric Blue.

This is the exact truck Im looking for:

Thanks for the help

I think the best way is to type and print several copies of all specs and options you are looking for and fax it to several Dodge dealers in your area. One or more of them will jump on it and if they want or need the sale will contact you immediately and even bring the truck in from another dealer for you. You can also e-mail them. Be sure to leave your contact info and mention that you have been approved for the loan by your bank. Once you get a response you may want to look into financing with Chrysler. When i bought mine they had a lot of rebates and one of them was $3000. 00 off if i financed with them. Good luck.

Order one the color and equipped the way you want it. I'd start off with Dave Smith in Kellogg, ID. The're not that far from you.

Well, so far the bank has been the hold up. They havent been very willing to give loans out on new trucks, yet seem more willing to loan on used vehicles. Go figure... ? My dad has darn near an 800 score and is having difficulty on loans even

Ive actually been in contact with Dave Smith. Working a deal on a black 09 Mega currently, but before I bite Id really like to find the blue I want. If my CU comes through for me, I may order if one cant be found.

Thanks for the ideas guys

D. Smith can run a locate for that unit,if there is one in the system, problem is he may have to give up a car/truck,or a allocation or worse take a unit that is not selling, plus there is the cost of transporting/underwritting insurance etc. So he would rather force you to take the black one on his lot. Also what bank are you dealing with,I know that JP Morgan Chase has inked a deal to provide additional financing for dealerships along with a slew of credit unions across the US. Call JP Morgan (this is a tarp bank which is under pressure now to start loaning again) on there 1-800 number and will walk you through a pre approve loan amount, interest rate, terms before you shop,it's better this way as it caps the amount of money you can borrow and force's the dealer to come to a more realistic sales amount. Green River location, I fished that river long ago with a really nice family guide service. Good Luck

I took the hold off the one at Dave Smith, so its free to sell, and got my $500 deposit back (atleast I better have). My local dealer actually got the truck Im looking for in... except its a Laramie, every option except auto, but runs about $10k more than Im willing to pay. Hes going to put the word out for me and locate the truck. He said he guarantees he can get me financed (shoulda got that in writing... haha) so we'll see. Everybody has capped at 30, except my own CU capped 26. 5 for some reason  Other than my CU, Im not sure whole else the dealer had tried

Thanks for the info. Ill try that tomorrow. Yea Im in Green River. Cant say Ive done any fishing here or at the Gorge in the 3. 5 years Ive lived here... I should really get out more :-laf

Just some more idea's to throw at you. Chrysler LLC has this offer good till 4/30/2009, 2009 Dodge trucks 0-5. 9%,rebates are as follows 2-3500 rebate on 2500/3500. To me just a month or so ago, trucks were sold back of invoice, plus rebates which was employee plus and rebates and in some regions more money was thrown at the deal. This current offer on trucks expire's on the 30th of this month then a new round of incentive's will be launch. There is a currenty 80-96 day supply of trucks. Plus most dealerships are at about a national average of 6-15 trucks per month at best. So it to your advantage to go back and ask for back of invoice, and get the truck you want. A Laramie with a stick is not a good way to go since this is a loaded truck you should get it with the Asain 6-speed. This is why it is still on his lot after that killer employee plus, and rebates was on. The bank or CU looks at auctions and see's what they are being sold for,and some will bump alittle higher than that amount depending on your scores, down payment, credit history, how long you have been at the bank etc. Be very careful about your dealer obtaining a loan for you, there is alot of add-ons to your loan if you are not careful. Your CU cap at 26,500 for a reason ask them why you are entiled under law to have a answer, also you might be close to the new debt to income ratio's that are now the norm at most banks now. Whats is wrong with your 2007 due you what more room in back for the family? Oh and that paint is called Patriot Blue I believe.

They actually just got that truck in 2 days ago. If it werent $10k more than I want to pay, Id get it.

My current truck is Patriot Blue, its the dark blue. Love the truck, but the transmission has been out 3 times in a year and Im tired of it. In my opinion, a full billet trans shouldnt be blowing up convertors and snapping shafts at maybe 500hp. Ive never been at a track, no boosted launches, no sled pulling, no abuse. I will get on it some getting on the interstate going to work everyday, but its nothing that the trans shouldnt be able to hold up to... other than that, not a thing wrong with the truck. I may just swap a manual in it. Basically Im tired of the automatic, and really miss shifting. Figured since I have a daughter, and will eventually have more kids, I might as well step up to the Mega while Im at it.

Can you explain "back invoice" a little more please? Ive never even heard the term...

Thanks for the info

A build sheet comes from the factory with the truck, these build sheets contain a weath of information like every single item that was put into your truck, were it was built, who ordered the truck, you do not have to look to the vin for information all is in this sheet of paper,a fleet sales or general manager can get it for your sales person. As far as pricing goes their are 4 numbers located at the bottom of the sheet. 1)MSRP, 2) Dealer invoice 3) Employee Pricing or EP, 4) Dealership paid for the truck. I will tell in all honesty that if you see what the dealership paid for the truck, which is very rare, you will never buy that truck for that price. He will block that number on the build sheet as for you not to see it. Have you concidered sending the transmission out to be builted-up to handle the Smarty settings,There at least 5 that advertise on TDR, and with business real slow alot of these guys might cut you a deal. I mean 4-5000 on a transmission or 33,000 for a truck.

I do have the buildsheet on my 07, but never saw what the dealer paid for it. I hear thats the best way to get a good rice, but Ive never seen numbers on what the dealer pays...

I already have a built trans. Billet convertor, triple disk I believe, billet input/intermediate/output shafts, upgraded clutches, etc. Paid $7k for it last Jan. /Feb. so being as I keep going through basically the best trans one could get, Im tired of being left on the side of the road because of it

Then it must show MSRP,Dealer Invoice,EP,Dealer cost (if not ink out on a copy). Also this is not the window sticker that hangs in the truck driverside. Who builted the transmission someone local?

You may want to explain to StrokeThis about Hold Back money, which is added profit to the dealer if he sells the truck within 90 days.

I saw the Built Sheet on my 05 when I purchased it, but the dealer would not make a copy or let me take it somewhere to make a copy. I don't know if I saw, or recognized, what the dealer paid for the truck.

Dealer incentives, rebates,CF financing discounts,Hemi discounts,Larmine discounts,SLT's,reqional discounting, and also there are price increase's that sometime occur during a MY run. . All of this falls under holdback kickback or whatever a automotive journalist whats to call it. Its very complex to fiqure what actually a dealer paid for a truck only their accounting deptment knows for sure.

I realize its not the window sticker. I have two, which may or may not be what your referring to. They were sitting in the glovebox. Has every option the truck has, the codes for them, where it ws built, who ordered it, etc. I dont recall there being numbers at the bottom, or didnt know what they were. If the truck was here Id go get them and throw a pic up for you to see if thts what your referring to.

HTS built my trans. Its been pretty good, as far as holding power and the way it shifts. Definately a huge improvement over stock. For some reason though, I keep having problems. The convertor blew up last Aug. about, then snapped an input shaft last month. I could understand if I had huge power, but I dont think ~500hp should be killing it.

Weird coincidence. That truck in the picture above was for sale in Colorado. Its now sitting in Rock Springs at the Ford store... maybe its a sign:-laf

Almost makes me want to get another auto. Its a real nice truck. 5. 9, auto, Laramie, nav, straight pipe... Wish it were a manual, it might be sitting outside my house now

You're absolutely correct in your thinking, get a 6 speed manual.

Wrong! Holdback is an incentive to the dealer only. The customer is not even suppose to know about it and if you tell the dealer that he's getting holdback money, they usually get mad at you. It's an incentive to the dealer to sell the vehicle fast. If he sells it right away, as if someone order it, the dealer get 100% of the holdback, which varies by manufacture. A Dodge truck is 3 to 3. 5% if MSRP. The holdback is 0 money after 90 day that the vehicle has been on the lot. I like to use holdback as an ace-in-hole tactic to get the sale price as low as I can get it. Holdback information is available on Edmunds.com.

Read about Holdback.

As others have already stated, order your truck..... I did and it was well worth the wait.

I, too, am a lover of Electric Blue Pearlcoat. Also, don't knock the 68RFE until you've spent some time behind one.
