My niece will be having a baby in February. It'll be the first grandchild and great grandchild on both sides of the family. When my niece was little (she was born in '79), she had a small square book by Richard Scarry titled, "Mr. Paint Pig. " It was her favorite book, but it has long since disappeared. Her mom (my sister) always talks about how she would love to find that book for her new grandchild. I've done a search on e-bay, Amazon.com, etc. , and all I can find is "Mr. Paint Pig's ABC's", a book about the alphabet. But that's not the book I'm trying to find. The original "Mr. Paint Pig" is about colors. I will never forget reading it to my niece when she was a toddler (I sort of helped raise her). Her favorite color is purple, and in the book, there is a page where Mr. Paint Pig was hauling a load of purple paint and he crashed into a truck that was loaded with grapes. My niece used to just go nuts when we'd read the caption, "Purple paint and purple grapes were EVERYWHERE!"

Of course, now that she's an adult, she doesn't remember that, but I sure do, and so does my sister. I know it sounds kind of silly, but it was a really special part of watching my niece grow up.

So now I'm searching the world for this book, and I'd like to give it to my sister as a surprise gift. Do any of you parents out there remember reading that book to your kids? Anyone happen to have it in a box in the attic? Any ideas where I might find it on the internet, like some kind of parenting/child rearing discussion forums or on-line bookstores? Like I said, I had no luck with an internet search, because all I could pull up was the book about ABC's, and that's not the book I'm looking for.

If any of you can help, thanks in advance.

Andy (soon to be a great-uncle!) Oo.

I found it on Barnes and Noble.com, but it says, "Currently not available on Barnesandnoble.com at this time. " Here's a pic of the cover:

NEVERMIND... disregard... false alarm!! I realized I had the title of the book wrong. I thought it was called "Mr. Paint Pig" (it's been about 20 years since I last read that book to my niece), but looking at the picture above, I just noticed that I was wrong. I typed in "Richard Scarry's color book" and it came right up on Amazon.com! I just ordered it! This will bring tears to my sister's eyes when she gets it.

Well Andy glad you found the answer to your question! When I was a kid I LOVED Richard Scarry books. I'd sit there and just laugh my rear off. I thought his sense of humor was great.

One book I had as a kid I've not been able to find is a "Cat in the Hat" book about a kid who stayed home sick from school during the winter when all sorts of hedlum occured. Don't recall the name of the book though.

It's amazing what Grandparents will do for their grandbabies. My wife made me buy "Little Black Sambo" off eBay for our grandson.
