Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Set timing, engine out, head off question.

My 98 engine is on the stand, head is off. I would like to check the timing and set to 16 deg. Question is, how do I tell that TDC on 1 is not 180deg. off.



My guess is that when the timing marks on the crank, cam and pump gear are aligned, 1 should be on tdc (I'll verfy with a dial indicator), it's ready to time. Likely a dumb question, just want to make sure.
