My shocks have been on a loooooong time, think it may be time to replace them. What is the hot setup for new shocks these days, and where did you get them?

Don,

Like you, I am old and I haul a large heavy slide in truck camper on a 2-wheel drive dually. In the past, I've used Rancho RS9000X adjustable shocks on both a 2nd gen 2-wheel drive truck and later my current 3rd gen 2-wheel drive truck to improve stability loaded and a better ride when unloaded. I wore out the Ranchos in about 30K miles on my '03 truck which has hauled the camper 95% of the miles on it.

I replaced the worn out adjustable Ranchos on the front with Bilsteins (blue and yellow from Genos) on the front and replaced the Rancho RS9000X adjustable on the rear with a new set (lifetime warranty @ Sam's 4x4 Offroad). The adjustable Ranchos on the front are a big hassle to adjust on a 3rd gen 2-wheel drive truck; however, adjusting the rear is easy. I like the ride much better loaded and unloaded and the truck carries the camper just as well as it did with adjustable Ranchos on the front.

FWIW, I adjust the Ranchos on the rear to their highest setting (9) when hauling the camper and on a light setting (2) when unloaded.

Bill
