Is the silencer ring located where the hose coming from the airbox connects to the turbo? I took that hose off and didn't see any black snap ring. Thanks for the help. I love this website. I've learned a lot.
 
Hi. Yeah, you're lookin in the right place. It is in the turbo itself right in front of the

vanes (fins, blades, whatever). Mine is silver, little stamped metal piece, round and

tapered. a snap ring goes into groove machined around inside of turbo inlet to hold it in. Booger to get out. Put mine back in later, just couldn't get past the thought

that maybe it cut down on turbulence or something. If you like whine tho, try

a big open element air filter like a Napa #2790
 
I sent an email to Piers about removing it. "That's correct, the silencer ring does not allow enough air to recycle. By removing it, you help the turbo to breath better.
