Since I'm new to this site and my 1999 Dodge CTD is the first Diesel I've ever owned, I have a question. What is a silencer ring? I've read in other Q & A wear people have pulled them out. Please advise. :( :(

The silencer ring is right at the inlet to the turbo. It is a stamped metal piece held in by a snap ring. When removed you can hear the turbo whistle as it spools up. I personally like the sound with it removed but the extra noise seems to bother some people. There are no increases in power with it removed.

Silencer Ring info... ...

1. take out silencer ring.

2. live with if for a few days

3. starts to get irratating with your heavy foot, or heavy trailer and under powered Stereo

4. RE-install silencer ring and all is well:D

Just make a short stop at your local muffler shop and have them "lose" your muffler and resinator and replace it with a straightpipe and you'll be extremely happyOo.

NO. NO, NO, Get LOUDER stereo.

I have one now thanks to the Crossfire VR404 under my seat:D , but I don't want to chance repeated un-installing and re-installing of the ring. :(

1) Remove silencer ring

2) Enjoy sound

3) Enjoy sound so much, don't turn on stereo for almost 6 months

4) Install Scotty Air system and drill hole into cowling, ahh that's better

5) Avoid turning AC on recirculate as it mutes turbo tunes

6) Consider drilling 4. 5in hole through other side of cowling into cab to hear even better.

7) Reject #6 and opt for installing twins, the stereo may never be heard from again ;)

I removed my silencer ring and I don't know where my muffler and resonator went  :D I love the sound!!! I'm with work2muchplay2little, I don't listen to the radio anymore! :) The website Big_Daddy_T gave should show you how to remove it easily. All I needed to remove it were two flat screwdrivers. Good luck.

It kinda sounds like a weed wacker with a long string on it when it's all sped up. Whirrrrrrr. I took mine out, not sure I'm inclined to re-install.

I have pics at home, if I remember, I'll post them.

Put a cover over it

Here's picture of what I put over the top of my silencer ring.

Gives it a big air flow sound.

34* angle degree cut.

Had it custom made by a machinist friend.

and the turbo wooshes, Quiet with a 19037 air filter.

Thanks for all the good advise and kool picture from SteveE. I immediately went outside and pulled out the ring and what a nice calming sound it makes now. Except when the windows are down. Its hard to hear anything over the straight piped exhaust. But who the hell cares, I dont want to be calm all of the time.

Well how about it Steve, you going to start selling these?????

Gee, I love it when those PSD owners look like this!

Boost ring

I don't think I'll be selling any of these.

I posted the demensions so you could go have one of your machinist friends make yours for you.

Happy trails, Steve

K & N doing its job

Well today I cleaned and re-oiled my K & N filter - it's doing its job as the intake and turbo compressor are nice and clean.

I also found out I have NO SILENCER RING! Previous owner must have removed it and IT SOUNDS GREAT TO ME!!:D Love the sound of that turbo!!:D
