Since I'm new to this site and my 1999 Dodge CTD is the first Diesel I've ever owned, I have a question. What is a silencer ring? I've read in other Q & A wear people have pulled them out. Please advise.
The silencer ring is right at the inlet to the turbo. It is a stamped metal piece held in by a snap ring. When removed you can hear the turbo whistle as it spools up. I personally like the sound with it removed but the extra noise seems to bother some people. There are no increases in power with it removed.
3. starts to get irratating with your heavy foot, or heavy trailer and under powered Stereo
4. RE-install silencer ring and all is well
Just make a short stop at your local muffler shop and have them "lose" your muffler and resinator and replace it with a straightpipe and you'll be extremely happyOo.
I removed my silencer ring and I don't know where my muffler and resonator went I love the sound!!! I'm with work2muchplay2little, I don't listen to the radio anymore! The website Big_Daddy_T gave should show you how to remove it easily. All I needed to remove it were two flat screwdrivers. Good luck.
Thanks for all the good advise and kool picture from SteveE. I immediately went outside and pulled out the ring and what a nice calming sound it makes now. Except when the windows are down. Its hard to hear anything over the straight piped exhaust. But who the hell cares, I dont want to be calm all of the time.
