Would mine slipping out of granny under the same conditions be the same thing?
Pretty much the same but it is a different slider/clutch. Does yours slip out when you let off or jump out under load. The latter being more destructive in potential especially in the lower gears. Some of the ancient trucks with old borg warner and muncie three speeds would jump out. My grandady had a forked stick that he used to prop his in high. I expect that the Cummins would have enough torque to spit it out anyway. There could also be an issue with bearing condition on the speed bearings for the corresponding gear. Most any manual transmission can get this sort of problem whether it is a truck, tractor or whatever. It is result of wear and in some cases from severe use. But since we only use these trucks for special ocassions and sunday driving, that couldn't be the cause.
