I feel there is quiet some confusion about the " Boost Fooling " on the CR trucks. Let me try to explain exactly what's involved with it.
Let's start from the 2003 to 2004 trucks.
Those trucks use a "traditional" wastegate. With traditional I mean to say, apply enough pressure to the actuator and the WG opens. All mechanical...
For those trucks my SW's actually already do the " boost fooling". That means, there is a table of values in the ECM that commands fuel based upon intake pressure. So much pressure, so much fuel. If the pressure exceeds a preset value in that table then the ECM will cut back on fuel. That's already taken care of with my SW's.
2003's to 2004's are a no brainer. No need for an electronic boost fooler. You need to "fool" with the wastegate actuator in order to see higher boost.
The 2004. 5 and up trucks.
In addition to the above they have an electronic valve to provide pressure to the WG actuator ( It's that black gizmo screwed into the turbo with the rubber line to the WG actuator ). That valve is controlled by the ECM and it's actuation is based upon... you guessed it the intake pressure.
In addition to the boost table discussed above there's a second table that deals with the duty cycle of that valve VS boost. At a certain preset point the valve opens, provides pressure to the WG actuator and the WG is opened.
That is the "problem".
The WG actuation is based upon the boost pressure, the MAP sensor.
Let's say for a moment Smarty is used on a truck ALONE. OK, I can mod the table that deals with the duty cycle, thus open the WG at a higher boost pressure.
Now we stack Smarty with the modified duty cycle table AND any box that does "boost fooling". (Almost all boxes fool the ECM into seeing less boost than there is in reality. )
What do we get?
Smarty's SW opens the WG at higher than stock boost pressure. PLUS the box fools the ECM into seeing less pressure. That translates into even more boost before the ECM will open the WG. Whatever is the weakest link in the chain will go BOOM... .
See?
That's what has held me back from relasing the "Boost Fooling" SW's for the 04. 5's and up . The Boost Fooling software's are ready. I'm still debating with myself if I should send them to customers upon request or publish them on our website ready for download.
Upon request is a problem because the file is hugh ( 20+ Megs ). Published on the web site is even worse. I can already hear it... "you didn't tell me that I would have blown my turbo with that SW"...
Thought's?
