Had to share

FWIW! Pay Attention at the Diesel Pumps!!!

My brother in law got an afe air filter and just about had a cow when I told him of his impending doom, he had trashed the stock filter box.

This is a good read, the CARB is being criticized for the validity of the studies it has based its regulations on:
Trucking companies hurt by recent environmental rules | The Martinez News-Gazette

This paragraph jumps out
“The association [of premature death and PM2. 5] is extremely weak by epidemiological standards. The initial findings were not supported by subsequent studies,” Enstrom said. “A lot of particulate matter in California is just road dust or from forest fires,” Enstrom added.

John and Ken here announced another imminent bankruptsy of a trucking co. in L. A. The owner can't afford to retrofit/replace his fleet so he's laying off 250 employees. There's "job creation" for you. Way to go " Terminator and Pres. O".

Maybe they need to legislate these rules for the railroads to to install a PDF on there diesel engines. And the airlines, can you imagine a PDF attached to a jet engine over head?

On the article I read it effected out of state trucks that frequented the state of Calif. So as I see it, how are they going to move there produce they grow? Growers haul it to the boarders and transfer it? It hasn't been fought in the courts yet. Has it?

Anyone know why I got three email notices all at once for this thread just now?

And by the way, just look for the cost of everything to go up now that only much fewer, but more expensive trucks can have the privilege of hauling into California...

Well any news? I live in the San Francisco Bay area and am selling my current truck to get a quad cab. I am looking at a truck with DDP 90 injectors, BD Super B Special, AFE intake box, CFM plenum, 5" turbo back. So the exhaust is a fail along with the turbo and injectors. Injectors you would never know until the snap test, Turbo maybe you would not see any visible aftermarket labels? I just registered my current truck for 2010 and did nothing. So has any one been tested yet?

I just read in the Reno Gazette Journal (1-26-10) that Nevada is now going to get tough on emissions. They didn't spell out anything about diesels but you know it is coming.

Better look for a stocker and throw a Smarty on it.

I just tried the "snap test" with my truck, Smarty #2. No smoke at 2krpm and just a puff at the snap, completely gone in say 2 seconds. Pass or fail? This is the problem a small puff to one person is a mushroom cloud to another. I would like to see a video of a pass and a fail.

If you go to the link I posted at the bottom of page 3 and watch the training video, you can see what CARB considers a pass/fail smoke test. In addition to the opinion of the individual tech regarding the smoke, it looks like we could pass or fail depending on the breeze at the time of the test.

I dont know if I am missing something, the video clip shows some exhaust but does not refer to a pass or fail. The commentary seems to be a introduction? Is there another video?

Above that introduction video there is a link for the diesel smog inspection training. That's the one you want and then just put in a first and last name, you don't need to put in a license number.

Thanks, I saw the sign in page last night and did not go further. The training video has answered a lot of my questions. My current truck with SW#2 loaded would be really close on a pass, and I would fail for not having a cat. The problem with the cat is I dont think my truck had one when it left the factory? I did not know that the grid heater was part of the visual. I almost ditched it when I got the AFE Bladerunner.
Thanks
