What a day...

Sears riding mower FF18

If you had to get a new one (2005) which 1/2 ton 4x4 would you get and why. My brother is shopping around. Tried to talk him into a CTD but he isn't interested but I am pushing him towards Dodge. Your insight?

I think this is actually rated as more than a 1/2 ton,but I like the Toyota Tundra double cab. It is a smidge smaller than the big three, but has a sweet engine, and the rear window goes down. Plus the toy's are rock solid.

My Grandpa loves his Tundra. Nothing bad to say about it. All smiles. He does miss his '97 F-350 PSD, though. He had zero trouble with it, other than it had a bad transmission when he bought it.

Hey-

I would stay awy from the Fake Hemi engine and the Ford f150 junk...

Chevy silverado is a great all around truck... Toyota is good too but pricey

"Fake Hemi"... . ???

Real hemi engines included a hemispherically shaped cumbustion chamber and a domed piston. The new engine does not have a domed piston but a flattop. Toyota engines have the center spark plug and hemispherically shaped combustion chamber just as the new Dodge engine but they don't throw around the word hemi. It is just marketing trickery.

If I'm buying a 1/2 T, the order I would go in is:

1. Titan

2. Tundra

3. Ford

4. Chevy/GMC

5. Dodge

The Dodge has power but gets horrible mileage (the 4. 7 does pretty well, though). The Chevy/GMC is dated (my truck before the CTD) and begs for a redesign. The Ford looks funky but is a good truck. The Tundra is a solid truck. The Titan is great its first year out and should have impeccible reliability. Tell him to wait for the new Honda... .

I've never ever been a big Dodge fan. The big seller is the CTD. I love it because of that.

My dad has the Tundra and really enjoys it, though he now wishes he had bought a 3/4 ton. I would say Tundra than Chevy, but then, I've never really been too concerned about 1/2 tons, so my opnions means very little. :(

Titan would be my first choice. I have read a ton of tests of 1/2 ton trucks and the Titan is a better "truck" than any of the others. Also worth noting is the Titan though rated lower in HP and torque beats anything in that class by large margins. One of the rags did a test and ran the trucks empty, half loaded and towing, the Titan beat them all by large margins in both acceration and braking. I checked them out at the local dealer a while ago, seemed pretty nice to me. I have owned 7 new Toyota trucks over the years, and the sum of all my problems with those 7 trucks is less than the problems I had with my 1 GMC truck in 5 years. I know Toyota is not Nissan but Nissan and Toyota both seem to do a good job of engineering a products to last and work properly for long periods of time, they are one of the main reasons there has been such an improvment in the quality of the big three in recent years. I purposely left out any reference to American made or Japanese made as the lines are so blured now you really cannot use those type of blanket statements anymore, after all I am now driving a truck built by a German company in Mexico. :-laf

I am a contractor and own a 98' F-150, which one of my employees drives on a daily basis, we have worked the truck hard, many times too hard for a 1/2 ton, it has about 140,000 miles on it with no problems. It has the small V-8, 4. 6 litres (which I believe calc. 's out to about 260 cu. in. ) it gets decent mileage... it really has been a great truck... knock on wood!

Well I guess I am the lone voice for Dodge. I was very happy with the overall quality of my 94. Ford would be my last choice based on the high number of problems our company fleet Fords have had, and personal experiences with Fords I have owned in the past.
