Alright, so we're trying to figure out why the fuel filter in TJ's rig seems to be sweating fuel - case is wet and the drain at the bottom of filter is always wet. It was real bad (dripping) until tonight when we changed out the filter and drain valve with new ones, but it's still sweating, apparantly from above the filter, maybe from the fuel heater??

Is the fuel heater sealed with an o-ring and is the heater easy to remove, does it screw on, or has anyone been here and done this? All lines into the heater look dry and everything above the heater looks dry, but from the heater mating surface down it looks wet, and it just keep going onto the filter.

Kind of a pain and the smell gets old after a while - ideas?

Hi Sam,

I believe that there is an o-ring on the fuel heater/filter mount joint that could be causing your sweating issue.

I'll look at the manual ASAP and let you know if there is anything else that could be contributing to your problem.

Sometimes when a filter is changed the o-ring gets pinched and/or the heater "block" can come loose... it won't take much to cause your situation. If you want, take a look at the assembly by removing it and checking what seal(s) if any, are between the heater block and it's mounting stud.

Sam,

It is an easy fix. When you have the fuel filter off, unscrew the nipple that the fuel filter screw onto from the mount. That will allow your fuel heater to come off. There is a rectangular o-ring on top of that. That could be the problem.

Another potential problem is that during a filter change, the ring on top of the filter may not have come off one time. You intall a second o-ring and now it never fully seals.

Just another possibility.

Stay warm!

Sam dude,

You will be able to obtain said part no. for said o ring from the Feb/Mar/April 2003 issue of out beloved magazine. Look in the first gen pages.

You did use a Fleetguard fuel filter which came with the square cut gasket or o-ring for the threaded top part of the filter and the o-ring for the water in fuel sensor right? If ya BTDT many times and of course Bill I did install both o-rings, then ya got me bro.
