Yeah. And at a point, I regretted getting the older style frame. I noticed a squeak happening in my console. I think just a bit of plastic flex (tradesman) caused by frame flex. But when I installed my unagoose fifth wheel hitch, it shored/stiffened things up a bit and the squeak stopped. It was like adding an additional cross member between the frame rails. Not as good as the upgraded frame. But helped get rid of an irritating noise that was driving the wifey crazy.
You are correct about that being the reason for the reduced rating, though. My specific truck has a 16,350 lb tow rating because it weighs 7650. And gross capacity is 24,000 lbs. Effectively, if my truck is empty except for the driver, i can tow 16k.
