My 91. 5 comes with 16x6 rims with LT235/85R-16E tires. Have a bent rim on the truck, but haven't been able to round up another rim(2/3 of a pun-pu) for a spare. Dealership quoted me $315. + 14. 5% tax for 1 rim and wait a week. Gee... think I'll order all 5! Wrecking yards seem to have 16x6. 5 rims---are they a stock Dodge part? Did they come on the 92-93 trucks? Tire size with these rims? Hub cap and beauty rings still fit? I've been trying to keep my truck stock looking... . Any info-much appreciated..... Thanks

For that kind of money you could buy a whole set of aftermarket rims and make your truck look like my old one.

My 93 had 235/85-16's on it when stock but I can't tell you what size the rims were, if the yards will sell you a whole set for less than a new one at the dealer I would go for it. I wouldn't mix the 6 and 6. 5 rims though it'll make the tires height a little different.

Tim,

Please tell me your old truck went to a good home! What a Beauty!!

Oh yeah, sorry I can't help with the rim question, but it would be a shame to pay that much for a stock steel rim. But sometimes if you want to keep the factory look..... you've got to pay the price. Try any online wheel places yet?

Thanks Phil, not really sure where it went though, somebody got a great deal on it though. I needed more room with a new kid in the family and found a smoking deal on my 01. At the time I had a very long driveway and was plowing snow with a Polaris 500 so I traded the 93 in to pay for the plow. :{ Wish I never did that! That truck had so much Character and was just down right tough. In that picture she had 180,000 miles on her and ran better than the day it was new and had tighter steering than my 01 ever has with all original ball joints and tie rods.

It was the end of winter when I traded that truck in and 4x4's weren't selling as good as they do in the fall. The dealer had dropped the price to $5000 when it finally sold. Hindsight being 20/20, probably could've got more for it on e-bay or in the classifieds here. It was a well maintained and cared for truck, wish I still had it. It is in Maine as far as I know, somewhere around Bangor.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, just wanted to reminise a little

Back in the early 90's, Ford and Dodge wheels were the same. Don't be afraid to check out Ford wheels, you won't be able to tell the difference between them. Watch the center hole diameter and setback to be sure you get the same size as your existing.

That is a TOTAL ripoff. I get rims all the time, especially 16. 5's - could of gotten a bunch just the other day but I didn't. My firiend and I have tires gallore (just see some of my pics on my site in the images areas). If you are goin' to the meet up at PDR let me know and I may beable to get you somethin (free). I have a bunch of tube type 16's I got rid of (had too many). The best place to get some for a good price would proably be Summit Racing (summitracing.com) and get rims from US Wheel. And get steel rims - forget piece-of-junk fashion aluminum ones, and I would forget chrome ones too - they just rust out and dogs LOVE to pee on them more than a powdercoat/painted one. But I am in the minority as I do not care about looks. 19. 5's are the best but hard to find. I like very much 245-70-19. 5 tires. With a terf or quarry treaded cap on - they are the best. I like 900-16's but they are imposible to find nowadays.

Darn Tim, that must hurt to look at that pic now, beautiful truck. It's exactly like mine, except mine's body isnt in as nice of shape, and mine's white where the red is. I dont have that visor either. That red isn't stock is it? I really like it. Kinda fuzzy, but it almost looks like you got a hood ornament on there... . I would have like one of those chrome Rams on my hood lol... maybe I should just go out to the farm and steal the one off of the 1949... . that would be cool:cool: Real sorry about adding to the hijacking of this thread, but i had to say something about that truck too.

One time my dad took a slightly bent rim to a tire shop and they banged it out with a sledge hammer... . could be worth a try

I got new rims, stock when I bought rires last fall, paid $ 50 each for them. The guy told me they are the same as the Ram vans up to '97 or '98, he was an aftermarket rire/rim place so I don't know if these were new take-offs or stocked inventory, but they have all the same markings as my original rims, too bad your so far away

A Radial Tire Question

Sorry, but thought I'd ask here since it was already titled.

I heard a mechanic saying the other day, that it no longer matters whether radials are switched from one side to the other. Is this true?

If I recall, when radials first replaced bias ply, switching from side to side (making the tire spin the other direction) could lead to tread peeling off. Was this ever true? Is it still today, or am I just a dupe and the tire industry has been scheming behind my back?

That has been my experience, it no longer matters. I do drive easy right after I switch positions, ie no heavy towing or extended high speed driving.

I have not used new radials, but that is true that they will come apart if you put the the other way - the cords stretch one way when you run them, and if you run them backwards they stretch again the otherway and come apart. Had it happen to 235/85/16's and 33/12. 50/15's before. It will make a 'bubble' in it and messes them up w/ ballance, and the cords can break and then you get a blowout.
