Spare tire carrier?

Hi, I have a stock 98 3500 5 speed with the 12 valve eng. I have a 10. 5' Cabover camper (@3200+lbs) and will be towing a trailer close to 7000lbs. I am thinking of mounting a spare tire on the front of the truck off a reciever hitch. We are going to be driving from Fairbanks Alaska to Springfield Ohio in early August.



My question is if I put the spare up there will it cause problems with eng cooling.

Well, it sure won't HELP it any. My question is a simple: Why do you want to do that?

I think he wants to do that because is sucks to get your spare down with a camper on your truck. It's a great spare tire holder until that happens then they suck.



I haven't even looked at mine but I've often wondered what kind of hell I'll be going through.

I can assume that, but what the heck, how many times do you expect to do that task? I took mine off with a 12ft camper overhanging and didn't think it was THAT bad really. Most of us have some type of roadside assistance anyhow, and will just let THEM take it off for us.

Another reason to carry a spare on the front is as a second spare. I often carry two spares when going off road.
