A friend of mine has a new truck and wants to get a spray in bed liner done. Basically we have three choices around here, do it yourself, Line-X and Vortex. We can't find any info on the Vortex. We went to their web site, but it didn't really have any info for consumers (was mainly for folks wanting to become a dealer). Anybody had any experience with the Vortex spray in bed liner ?

I wish I could help ya, JCrank, but I haven't heard of Vortex before. I had a liner put in last year, and around here there are a lot of choices. Basically, it comes down to application and applicator. Your buddy needs to decide what kind of spray liner he needs: eg rubbery, plasticky, etc. And then he needs to find an experienced technician to apply it as the quality of the liner depends on the quality of the installation. I did the prep for mine. Check out my gallery: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/user_gallery/displayalbum.php?&userid=993277&albumid=17958 for pics. Good luck.

I went Vortex approx 5 years ago on my 89 truck bed (over the rails) and the complete interior of my 91 Cummins Ramcharger, extremly happy and the best part is that the Vortex guy came to my house and did them both in my driveway.

I had completly gutted out the Ramcharger, all the seats and such were out, Least I did not have to take it anywhere, linex and Rhino coat wanted me to bring the truck to them and then they would give me a Quote????

They got there at 7am in the morning and finally finished up and cleaned up and left it was 730 pm. I watched them spray it on and it was approx 1/4 thick every where

I also had my Upstairs balcony done 12 weeks ago with there Granitex finish and was extremly happy with that, again well over 1/4 thick.

Only can comment on Rhino and Line-X...

Had Rhino done on my 2001, loved the texture and grip. I had shell on it so it was protected from UV rays, except I drove with the tailgate down a lot traveling with the dogs... the tailgate faded!

I have Line-X in my crew... happy with it at this point. Still pretty new though. I'm thinking that I will get the rocker panels done and maybe the roof... ?

My experences: THe DIY liners (herculiner) work good if you don't do any real work with the truck. In my cab it works good and won't peel, but in the bed it comes off when you do any real work ( scrape it with a shovel, slide wood accross it, load rough items, ect). It will fade and look bad quickly if you don't also apply the top coating protectant to it.

Rhinoliner and Line X are both very durable. However the Rhino will fade. Line x seems to hold its color pretty well. But for my money nothing beats a plastic liner.

Hope this helps.

Vortex

Sorry for the delay in posting. I am a vortex dealer on the east end of Long Island NY. Vortex is a similar product to linex. It dries to the touch in a matter of seconds. Its available in any color imaginable and the final texture is adjustable.

I apply a uv topcoat to every one of my bedliners to prevent fading and have had no complaints.

We have sprayed everything from trucks to pools, Its a great product. If you have any technical questions please feel free to PM me.
