Question ?? When removing the starter from the diesel, what tools are needed other than a 10MM 12 point socket to get the mounting bolts loose ??

When doing my return & supply lines I thought I'd have to remove the starter. As it turned out I didn't have to remove it ,although I think it would have helped.

When I tried to remove the starter I got to the bottom bolt on the right and could not get the socket to turn, even with a 3/8" breaker bar. There was interference with the starter not allowing the socket to turn. Remember this was a 3/8" drive. A 1/2 " drive would never fit in my opinon.

It looks to me like a 10MM 12 point combination wrench is needed to remove this bolt. Any suggestions ??

Just trying to do some planning for future projects !!!

bob,

I just used a 10mm wrench and i think that i had to double wrench it for more leverage. I don't remember having any other problems.

I did the same the BigyellowIron did. Double wrenched a 10mm 12 point. A rachet & socket is more trouble than its worth. Its useless on the bottom starter bolt.

That bottom outboard bolt can be gotten with your 10mm socket and a universal; breaking it loose with the wrench might make it easier. ;)

I also used a 10mm wrench and doubled up with a second wrench for leverage... That top one was a pain in the ass to remove
