Well after a whole lot of back aches and headaches I finally have the prowatt 800 installed. Thanks everyone that gave me some ideas for location but I went with my original idea after much deliberation. I have attached a link to the photos as they are large in size. For someone thinking about doing this I used #2 marine grade wire for both ground and +12V and installed 2 terminal post under the seat where I changed over to #4 wire to go into the inverter as #2 does not fit well. I still have to do some more work under the hood as I did not like the way the crimps came out and ran out of heat shrink so there will be some rework to be done but hey it is installed and it works. I also ran power and installed a 120V duplex receptical in the bed so that I have power for all of lifes little toys.

MCrossley,

Thanks for the info on the install, nice job. I saw a 1000 watt inverter at Costco the other day for $70 and figured that would be a handy upgrade for the price. Anyone else using the one from Costco.

watch those cheap inverters they can be very touchy when it comes to electronic equipment the cheaper they are they dirtier the power seems to get modified sine wave is hard enough to use with some things and cheap modified sine wave is that much harder.

MCrossley,

Where did you get the terminal post to go through the body?

I am going to do the same idea about doing an inverter to run a small amperage air compressor for an exhaust brake, cleaning, tires.

You choose the ProWatt because of? There are several different types and just courious why that one? Why 800w and not 1500w? Current draw? Why mount in the cab? Seems like could be very noisy. I was thinking of mounting in a vented enclosure in the bed along with the compressor.

Agree on the marine wire. What specific problems did you have that might help in steering me around snags?

Thanks,

Bob Weis

The post do not go through the body they are terminal post from West MArine and are screwed into the floor. I used a male conduit fitting and a threaded coupler through the floor and siliconed the scnott out of it. I chose the PRowatt 800 because I had it. I also have a prowatt 1500 whcih just consumed way too much space for my liking the 800 actually has a continuous rating of 1000W. No real problems just take your time and remeber which bolts go where from the seat (took mine out) I would not recomend the inverter in the bed even in an enclosure for a few reasons one is heat you are exposing the unit to way more direct heat than under the seat. Second is elements, even in a enclosure moisture WILL find its way into the inverter and that will be bad. Also I saw your thread on the compressor remember that even if the motor is 4amps continuous you will require probably at minimum 8 amps to start it and more likely 12. Keep that in mind when sizing the inverter. If you have any other questions let me know I will be happy to give you more info.
