I have a 1996 2500 that has been making a popping and grinding noise when the steering wheel is turned. This usually happens at slow speeds when turning in the drive-way or parking lot. I have not been able to locate the cause. Has anyone had this problem before. Also, I'm have cupping problems on the outer edge of the steer tires and the alignment is good. Any help with either or both of these problems would be great. I love to read my TDR. Maybe you should make this a bi-weekly publication to cut down on the waiting for the next issue!

There was a maintenance tip in the latest TDR about the grease in the steering shaft needing to be "squeezed" back up from the rubber boot into the shaft itself. I don't have the article here but if memory serves me correctly that is one of the causes of the popping sound that you may be hearing.
