So i love the N-fab style nerfbars, but i hate the mounting they have. so i was thinking of making my own bars, like the Nfab ones. does anyone know if there is a kit out there for frame or body mount brackets that i can buy? just need brackets. i can fab them, but might be cheaper to get them.

thanks guys,

Just curious, why don't you like the N-fab mounts? I have had mine for over three years and no problems. 2 years on my 05, and a 1 1/2 on my 07.

Really>? i just dont know about drilling holes in the pinch welds. how many mounting points are there on the N-fabs?

There are 2 points on each tab, or six all together. The carriage bolts that come with the steps are weak. I got grade 8 hardware and they haven't budged a bit. I also got my steps sprayed in Line-X for that non-slip grip. It might be an easier route to go. Here's a pic to check them out.

Hey blackfields, can you take some pics of the mounting spots from underneath? and do you drill holes in the pinch weld areas then stick bolts threw it? i just cant make up my mind!!!

I ran my right front wheel off a deep culvert. Only thing holding truck up was the NFab bar on that side. While it was sitting on it the bar was folded out so far the steps were pointing straight up. Belive it or not all I had to do to fix it was stand on the bar and jump a little. No squeaks rattles or apparent damage. I wouldn't worry too much about the mounting.

When drilling the pinch make sure you drill straight. The first time I put a set on I accidently let the drill slip and had slot instead of a hole.

i just picked up my go rihno dominator bars today (similar to n-fabs). . got the polished stainless cause i didnt want the "bonded" chrome. . prolly gonna throw'em on this weekend. . looks like basically the same... 3 brackets per side/2bolts per bracket mounted to the pinch... will post pics soon

here ya go. . these suckers are polished SS but look chrome!! i was surprised... heres a couple of pic of the bars and brackets. .

Hoodwink,

Nice truck. How sturdy are the bars to stand on? Is this the way the N-fab bars mount too?

You're going to get some questions about your truck. I predict the following:

What size tires are those?

Is it lifted or stock suspension?

What kind/size wheels are those?

Here's pics of my N-Fab steps. Had them sprayed with liner when i had my rockers sprayed with liner. As far as the mounting goes its done through the pinch weld but when i stood on the bars you could see the pinch weld flex and it just didn't seem strong enough for me so i made some fabrications to them to make stronger. Then had them shot with liner after a fabed them. The bracket i added is bolted through some existing holes that are in the frame so i didn't have to drill through the frame.

Here's Pics.

hey thanks spooled! yeah, there sturdy enough (im bout #210lbs) very little flex. . i do like doughboys idea w/the extra support though. .

as far as the my set up goes, i just have a leveling kit (for now. . carli is next ;) the wheels are pro-comp 20x9 w/toyo 35's. . had to do a lil massage'n to stop what little rub i had though. . overall im like'n it so far. its my first truck so im taking my time to do it right.

"Doughboy21kd" I dig the way you added the braces to your n-fab bars. I have the six step bars and was concerned if they would hold my fat ***** so what i did was added a piece rubber sheet where the bracket meets the cab and added to more sheet metal screws. Now I feel better about standing on them but not when I go off road. I am afraid if i hit something solid that may rip off. I am gonna get some measurements and hit the scrap metal pile for some steel. Oh and I changed the hardware too but i used stainless. You would think that they would have been thrown in for the price they charge.

Sorry for the lack of pics, it's been snowing/raining since last Wed. So I'm not really motivated to climb under my truck. Those pics of the fabbed bracket look really nice, I might have to do that too.
