When my 1997 diesel is at idle and I push the accelerator pedal it sticks. The cable seems ok. I oiled where the cable connects on the engine. still sticks. Do I have an internal problem?

The 'fueling shaft' through the pump body can become corroded. Spray liberally with #2, PB Blaster or WD-40 and work the shaft well. Then lube with oil.

My '98 did this a few years ago. It's been fine since I loosened it and thoroughly oiled it.

Was the recall ever done on that cable? it was #970 to replace the cable because the cable end would fray and stick where it would feed back into the tube. When they done mine they replaced the cable and the linkage to the pump. Has worked perfectly ever since.
Don't think I would use oil for a lube, attracts dirt and will gum up. Maybe a dry lube and work the lube into the shaft housing.
Use the process of elimination cause there is a few joints to eliminate.

Thank you for the input. It was the corrosion on the linkage. I blasted it and worked it back and forth, it is now working good. again thanks. bob
