JUST A FEW QUESTION ABOUT THE AIR BOX ON MY TRUCK.

1997 3500,CC, 2WD,215 HP CTD-5SPD-3. 54

DYNOMAX MUFFLER ,NO CAT

IN WHAT MANNER WILL MY ENGINE PREFORMANCE AND FUEL MILAGE BE AFFECTED,IF I INSTALL 6, 3/4 INCH DIA HOLES IN THE

AIR BOX .

WILL HELPING THE ENGINE GET MORE AIR CAUSE IT TO USE MORE FUEL ?

I MAINLY USE MY TRUCK TO TOW (TRK CAMPER AND 24FT ENCLOSED CAR TRAILER) GCVW = 18,000 LBS

THANKS FOR THE HELP

SCOTT

Giving it more air won't make it use more fuel. If your still running basicly stock you won't see much, if any, differance when you put holes in the air box except possibly a bit more turbo whine at max boost. If / when you increase the fueling, then you need to give it more air to reduce EGT's and increase efficiency. With the load you listed, you may be wanting a bit more power for climbing hills which is simple enough with a plate and boost elbow from TST products. then maybe a BHAF or Mega Cannon to get more air in.

Please describe what your looking to gain and we'll be better able to help.

Please turn off the CAPS LOCK! IT'S JUST LIKE SHOUTING...

Brian :)

I have 6, 1" holes in my box, and a K&N filter. I also removed the silencer ring in the mouth of the turbo. I'm sure it draws in all the air it needs now, but it sounds like a little jet whining away under the hood. Get ready for more turbo whistle, even at idle.

If you want to see an improvement spend the money and buy the Mega Cannon. There was a good write up on it in the last Turbo register. My EGT is lower while towing. You can hear the turbo wind up. Very satisfied with it so far.

Remove the rubber boot between the air box and fender well, its very restrictive. When I installed my 370s I could peg the filter minder with 1 full throttle run and after removing the boot the filter minder never moved.

I just installed a 4" flex tube between the cowl ala Scotty II and the stock air box, EGT's dorpped 100 degrees. My filter minder was a 10 before the added air and now is at 0. There is more turbo wine in the cab under hard throttle, but my wife didn't notice.

Thanks for the information .

Sorry about the Caps.

guess i'll try the removal of the stock elbow ,my EGT's have'nt gone over 1000f with the full load as mentioned before.

I was thinking of using one of the DR. Preformance kits, to bomb my cummins . yes it could use a bit more power when going thru the hills.

Thanks

Scott

Do a search on Dr P vs the others before buying. Many horses can be added at a very reasonable cost with a bit of searching on this sight.
