So the prescription for my much-loved truck was indeed a new clutch (from Torque King, just down the road in Billings). But there were a couple of twists that my carpenter's brain probably didn't register sufficiently. The pilot bearing and bushing were also shot, so the shop replaced them with a more robust pair that required boring out the flywheel. (The mechanic said aftermarket replacement parts are lousy and are likely to fail in a way that could screw up the gears.) They also resurfaced the flywheel, of course. So, $2200 later, we've got the old beast back on the road. It sure messed up our hunting season, but I'm grateful it didn't crap out while I was still out in the boonies. Beter luck next year.
