SOmeone on the TDR told me I can get something called a thermocube for 15 bucks or so. It plugs between your heater cord and extension cord. It keeps the heater turned off till the temp hit 40 deg, then turns on. Sounds good to me!!

block heater

is the block heater standard equip, or an option? I have a 1998. 5 24 V and have never seen the heater!! Had a 95 3500 and had a plus up front , passenger side. Maybe I have one and can't find it. Winter is coming. Tell me where to find it. thanks.

I discovered mine today hanging just to the left of the condenser (on the passenger side). The cord was held in place by a little cable tie or something so it wouldn't move around.

I actually found mine by tracing the cord from the passenger side battery to the block and then found a cord running out to the front of the truck that looked suspicious. It was none other than the plug for the heater!

Maybe this will help.
