Just got back from 600+ mile trip.

8,600 miles. Great truck. Give it a 9-1/2. It loses 1/2 point for all the engine noise at 75-80 mph. Gets 18mpg at 75-80 mph. Not many others will do that with 4. 10 gears.

Just rode in B-n-law's PSD 100K miles. He loves my truck too. Thinks it is a lot nicer than the PSD.

I was a died heart Ford fan, in fact my youngest boy's middle name is Ford. In 97 I was looking for the best Diesel pick-up. I drove alot of Powerchokes , a Auto dodge and my 1997 5 speed Extra cab. I am now a Cummins fan through and through. The only problems I have had are with the factory CD player (dies twice), the fuel gauge sender, and the paint which is too thin. I would date this truck a 9 it would be a ten if there was better dealer support.

I have 21,460mi on my 99. I've had a new headlight switch and a new apps. This is the first diesel for me and I'll never go back. I rate mine a 9, and if your listnening DC, it would be a 10 if it had a crew cab. I hope they build one quick, cause my boys(3 and 7) and rapidly outgrowing the quad cab. I saw a new Sooper Pooper on a lot, stopped and quickly looked and came back to my senses! DC, please build a crew cab and leave our CUMMINS in there! Keep the damn Mercedes out of our rigs! (PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!)

I have a '00 Quad Cab 2500 With auto trans and 3. 54 gears. The first diesel I have ever owned and I will never go back!!!! 22,000 miles since October and I expext about 10 times that many more. I rate it 9. 5 only because it will only do 115 mph. #ad

I've owned many vehicals - some bought new, some bought very old and rebuilt to better than new, some bought just as mules. I've only had one other truck that really lit my candle like this Dodge Cummins does. It was a Toyota 4wd 5 speed that was incredibly comfortable and reliable. The Ram was a replacement for the Toyota because although I loved the Toyota, it could not lug a big cab over camper off road in Baja. The Dodge Cummins has been like the Toyota on steroids. EXACTLY what I wanted. I looked long and compared before plunking down $30K. NONE of the others - Ferd or Cheby had the bullit proof Dana and New Venture drive train mated to the torque monster Cummins. I couldn't be happier #ad
To hell with the dealers, they all suck regardless of make anyway. I am my own repair station... (if the thing ever actually breaks #ad
) I get a big smile on my face every time I get a chance to row through the six speed to redline in every gear #ad

Loved my 97 2500 5sp. Needed LSD and wanted a quad cab.

My 99 has just turned 15,000 and couldn't run much stronger. I still wish I had held out for the 6SP, but would rate mine at 9 only because of poor dealer support.

I have 87K on mine. I've lost track of all the repairs it has needed, a transmission, brake pull, bad brakes, leaking seals, thermostat, blower motor, cruise control, no vacuum check valve, bad overflow valve, leaking return line, bad cassette player,2 track bars, one TPS, etc.
I wish I could have gotten a 200K warranty. I hope things quit going wrong with it. Great ride and mileage. Plenty of power. All the bad parts and problems make me rate it a 7.

Mine's a 94 with 137,000 miles on it. The transmission was repaired under warranty a couple of times by the idiots at the dealership. After the warranty went out, so did the transmission. I took it to a real transmission shop where it was fixed right. (The dealership dummys didn't install the pump correctly). As far as the rest of the truck goes, no other major problems. Things like the TPS and fuel sending unit are giving me problems at the moment. I really enjoy the truck and the fact that I get 20 MPG in a 3/4 ton truck. I would have to rate my truck a solid 9. Great engine, just wish the rest of the truck was as good.

I bought mine new in June of '98. I have almost 29k on it. Didn't put a lot of miles on it the first six months, as I was trying to sell my P. O. S. 1997 Suburban. ( When it rained there was more water inside than out, but that's another story) I have pulled my 6k trailer to Montana twice, several times to the Oregon coast and over Mt. Hood going east. No problems pulling the grades as long as I don't get behind a Ford
Sour Poke (It happened) and lose RPM's. Hard to get back up to speed on a 7% grade.

I had one recall for a flash and one for the hitch. The hitch needed new brackets. Replaced the stock shocks with an after market brand. Timberline Dodge was good about offering me new stock ones, but I passed. Complained about low power after the flash and they reflashed it and there was a noticeable difference.

My only real complaint so far is the over load spring rattle when I go over a bump, man hole cover ext. Have heard from others that it's normal, but I don't like it.

So all I can say is I'm very happy and will be a Ram fan for life. Give it a 9. 3

Dodge, keep the Cummins and get a four door. Up the AT transmission too!

Chris

Bought the truck July 11 of '99 for a b-day present for myself and have put nearly 33k on it since. Just put 275's and a 4" on before driving all over S. Utah and west Colorado. Have to give the truck a 9. 5, a half a point loss due to paint chips and other minor problems. Will probably never own another type of truck ever and hope to have this one for half a million miles maybe?

1996 70,000 miles.

I've had Fords, I've had Chevys. This is my first Dodge. I can say that they all have their problems. As far as the Cummins goes... this is the best damn truck that I've ever had, period. My buddies ask me "after 4 years why don't I get a new truck?".

Why?

A solid 10 here... I couldn't ask for a better truck. I put 14,000mi on my '99 2500 before trade-in,and currently have 18,000mi on my '00. The comfort, power, handling and reliability are all tops in my book. I don't even have to mention the great mileage I got between both(7300lbs) rigs.

I've had a track record of trading/selling my trucks off way too soon... should have kept the '99(identical truck). I love this one alot, and hope to put a few hundred thousand miles on it. I just love bragging about it!

Well Rob, Evan, and Mike, as I believe that NOTHING is perfect... I would have to give mine a solid 9. 9! I love it! Every day I look at that black bad boy and think, what a *****in' truck!

It REALLY proved its mettle last week coming back from Pocatello, ID. 90+ degrees ambient temp (but no humidity, right Doug #ad
), 80 mph cruise for around four hours straight (in high altitude... up hill at least 90% of the time), A/C on full blast (or close) the whole time... didn't even blink! Damn I love my Ram! #ad

10. Even with the minor issues after I picked it up, everything has been straightened out to my satisfaction. I like the look, the way it drives and the power. This is my second "second generation turbo diesel" and I'd buy another one. I had three Phords before these two. They were gas burners but the rattles, allignment problems, low power... ... . No thanks. I'll stay with my RAM.

I've got about 4,000 miles on my '01 and would rate it a 9. I second the opinion that the paint chips a little too easily and it has some bump steer, but the drivetrain is as good as it gets. Averaging about 19. 8 mpg now.
