I now have 6900 miles on the '01 ETH DEE and 0 problems, 0 complaints. About 1500 of those miles pulling a traile. GOOD truck
BUT... ... ... .
Not at all sure it was wise to give up the '93. It had 126,000 miles and needed one transmission rebuild (getreg) and one differential rebuild. Also replaced the steering shaft but not needed badly. A great truck and soooo simple compared to the '01;; Hey Craig, want to sell it back?

I have only 7500 miles so far, but I'm really happy with the performance so far. I have used the truck to haul an enclosed car trailer/car both ways up the Grapevine from LA to Bakersfield. If you want to test your patients, try this with a GMC Diesel that was normally aspriated. This truck was a pleasure. I have also made fishing trips to the Serria's, Nevada, and Colorado. These trips involved a lot of high altitude (9000+) and 4X4 roads. The performance was great. I'm at the upper end of the 10 scale.

I have 158000 miles on my truck the cummins is stronger than new . the truck is holding up very well even though it has been well used. I would give the cummins a 10+ and the truck a 9 it was a 10 until it made me change fuel lines in a irving parking lot on a 90 degree day. other then that im happy.

Rate the truck a 10. Very happy, even if the transmission blew up at 18k, DC gave me a new one. 1st diesel truck I've owned. Love the engine!

I can tell ya DC, that if you guys go with the krautgrinder engine, you'll lose my business (to one of the others). Besides, I'd have to give up my favorite bumper stickers:

Dodge Makes It, Cummins Shakes It! And, I'd rather be Cummin, than Strokin.

Well, there is one in every crowd and today its me. #ad
Until I stuck the VA box on this rig, I would give it a 4. Stock, with only the re-flash, this thing got fair mpg but still didn't have the guts to pull our local grades with my tt at much over 45 mph. It wanders, had a blown coolant gooseneck gasket (no biggie, but when the dealer refused to fix it... . ), the power seats are still not working on drivers side, and dealership put swirls in my black paint. Paint job does suck with all the chipping. That said, all the problems except the wandering fixed (seats fixed this week), and with the VA box on here, it gets a 7. 5. May go higher.

DC needs to put the heat to dealerships to KNOW about these engines and trucks so they can fix them, better paint, and little more power, and we're there. How's about a FOLD DOWN REAR SEAT DC???

I have had my y2k for 10 months now and 49500 miles later it seems to run better. I am averaging about 19 mpg. I don't want another truck.

I have owned a 94, 96, 98. 5 and now a 2001 ETH/DEE. This truck is by far the best truck I have ever owned. I have 3,700 miles on it now and I am getting 22. 6 mpg on the hwy. Except for the rotten paint that falls off when you look at it I rate this truck a 9. 5 #ad

This is my first Dodge and I have to say it's the finest truck I have ever owned. 12,700 miles and not a single problem. Best ride, more room, great mileage, I would have to give it a 10. #ad

99 with bare rusted metal under the dashboard (found during PE&SPA installs)
99 with less than perfect paint
99 with massive suspension rust ('normal')
99 not showroom HVAC proof (hate the clutch but my fault)
99 next to my sickly Suburban, love the truck

Gnarly 99 with it's bomb'd Cummins, love the truck.

OK, despite a few 'peeves, it's still a 9. 5-10

I have 5. 4K on my 2000 Ram Quad Cab 2500 with auto and 4. 10 rear end. First new vehicle I have purchased since 1972, and I love it. I would rate it as a 9. 0. My only concern is my automatic transmission and engine braking towing a 10K 5th wheel down a mountain.

My wife would rather ride in my truck than in our Camry Wagon as it is more comfortable! She has ridden in the back seat for several hundred miles and says the back seat is comfortable too.

I've got 5900 miles. Pulls my 34 foot 10k fiver like it's 3k. Highway mileage @ 1700rpms--23. 7---city @ 19. 5. Allways runs and starts. Nothing wrong except for a liitle rattle under dash that is getting fixed. This incredible machine just kepps getting better and I have to give it a 9. 5.

I've had diesels for over 15 years, 3 fords and this 99 . This is by far the worse of the 4. My 93 f*** CC dually was the best. I liked this truck until I tried to pull a 24ft TT , about 3,500 or 4,000 lbs. Got less than 10 MPG , and low power. The dealer said it was normal. At a routine oil change , the dealer reflashed the ECM , (without my knowledge) later denied it , then admitted it. Reflash = lower power ,higher water temps, same MPG. The 275RV and the VA module put the power up to acceptable levels , MPG still very low. I know the cummins is great , just the crappy service from gas engine mechanics and lousy customer service from DC. MY . 02¢
I give Cummins a 10 , the DC cummins engine a 5 , and the truck over all a 7 . Add in DC service and the overall total for THIS 99 Dodge is a 4...

I have a '96 2500 4X4 with 44. 5K miles. It's driven mostly in the Chicagoland area. The only problem I've had with it is a clogged #6 injector. No other real problems. I also drove it to Montreal on vacation last year (16 hours) and noticed it has a very comfortable ride on long trips. So I would give my truck a 10 out of 10. (PLEASE NOTE: I am a paramedic and drive a powerstroke for a living, it would rate a 2!) #ad

I have had my truck for one month now. Took it camping this past weekend to the mountains bringing the odometer to about 2500. I would rate it a 10 easily.

This is my first diesel and follows a 1971 Ford 240-inline 6. Pulling my TT up the hill with the Ford, I was constantly dreading the line of cars behind me, having to pull over and not being able to continue up the hill instead of turning around after all got by.

With the RAM it was full speed ahead. The two times that people did catch up to me, I pulled over, let them pass and powered back onto the road. NO PROBLEM!!

Lovin' it.

Mike

I love mine except for the crappy steering and brake pull. Fix those items and I'd rate it a solid 9, mainly because the auto transmission is such a POS.

The front end problems I hope to fix by installing new aftermarket parts (balljoints, tie rods, pitman arm, etc) and do the TSB on the steering box. Who knows, that might even fix the brake pull.

The transmission I dunno what to do with it yet... but other than that, the truck is great.

Rob

I'd have to say that I'd give the engine a 9 since it stumbles occasionally, which is most likely a DC problem.

The truck on the other hand gets about a 6. Less than 2000 miles after I got it the transmission had to be replaced due to a crack in the case. It's never shifted "right" since, and it has been back at least five times. The steering licks. There is at least two inches of steering wheel movement that has no effect on where the truck is headed. I have had the steering box replaced, and have attempted the TSB's about preload and over center. Most of the movement is in the output shaft of the steering box where it moves side to side before it will rotate. The jury is still out on the brakes. It pulls left, but not too bad. I've had that caliper replaced but it's still there. I don't think the brake pull would be so annoying if the steering was tight...

I do like the interior of my truck. It's very comfortable. I like the way it looks and for the most part the way it drives, it's just these minor issues that constantly grate on my nerves...

later,
Mike

I'll put my money where my mouth is and let my actions speak louder than words...
3rd one is now on order, would not even consider another brand. 10 #ad

I also give my truck a 10. Love every minute that I get to drive it. 70,000 kms, or 42,000 miles and everything is just getting broken in. Another 458,000 miles to go. #ad
