I have a 2000 2500 and the transmission recently cracked the output housing causing the transmission to leak out a run dry, hence burn it up. I picked up a used but recently rebuilt transmission out of a 1997 to put in. The swap went great, everything bolted up as it should, we swapped the sensors on the rear output and the sensor on the drivers side. The sensor we did not switch is the 8-pin round connector that requires the removal of the valve body to swap located right by the shift linkage. The truck drives perfect, shifts from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 fine and then goes into TC lockup in 3rd perfect, but will not even attempt to go into 4th. It is like the O/D OFF button is depressed on the column shifter although it is not. Is there something different about the 8-pin harness from a 1997 to a 2000's that would cause this, or any other reason??

Any help is greatly apprieciated.

You need to swap the gov pressure transducer and the VB harness also.

The 99 and newer trucks contain the temp sensor for the trans fluid in the transducer and have a wire in the harness, pre-99 does not have the temp sensor in the pan or harness pin to read it.

No temp signal, no OD. Might be a problem with the gov pressure also that is causing no OD. Not sure how the wiring differs from the 2.

You probably have a TCM stored code that is not kicking a CEL but it should be there.
