Sylvania White Headlites

Has anyone tried out the new Sylvania Silver Star white lite headlite bulbs yet? Are they any good? Are they real white light like they say on TV ad? I saw them at Wal-Mart for $37. 99 for a package of two. Whats the 411 on them?

Many guys have tried them and nearly all report improved visibility. I would like to try them myself, but can't find a source around here. The one place I did find wanted me to order 3 of them. so I chose to order none. Anyway, go for it, they will certainly be an improvement over stock.



The part number is 9004ST.

I have a set of silverstars (4) in my truck and they where an improvement. I think the silverstars you are talking about are new, I saw them at wallyworld over the weekend and they have some weird looking coating on the bulbs. If they are half as good as the orig silverstars I would buy them.

I have tried the silver stars, and the blue stars. Both were an improvement over stock, and about a tie between the two. The best luck I had was PIAA's EXTREME WHITE PLUS I have the 9004 lamp which is part #19614. There is another lamp that is also very good, It's the PIAA PLATIUM SUPER WHITE. Both lamps are DOT appoved, and if you are serious about impoveing your light, these will do. They can be had at AUTO PORFECTION

I bought the PIAAS for $80 ,and one went out in about 3 months. I bought the SYL's and put one in and you could not tell the difference between it and the piaa. There is no question about the improvement they make, especially if you have the sport lights. .

I put a pair of Sylvania Silver Star's in the wifes truck. Noticeable difference. One went out in less then a year. E-mailed Sylvania months ago, never heard a word from them. I like Sylvania products, but was disappointed with their lack of response. Also

Funny you should ask this question. One of my Sylvania Silver Star's just went out last night on me. They definitely improve visibility over stock and I highly recommend them for that but their life span has a lot to be desired. Mine have less than a year on them and one is already out.

maybe the silverstar bulbs are rated under 12v, maybe like 11v, so they will be brighter. and with the engine running, you'll never have 12v at any accessory anyways, it'll be more like 14v

To get the whiter light, these bulbs run at higher temperatures. That generally means they're more fragile and likely to fail.

The Silver Stars do make quite a bit of difference, much whiter light than the stockers.



Does anyone know if they make Silver Star replacements for the fog lights? I've seen the Sylvania replacements, but none of them have been Silver Stars. You can tell a big difference between the color of the light from the headlights and from the fogs. The fogs have a much duller yellow color, sort of like what the old headlights were.

I was just thinking about getting a set of silver stars for my Jetta (I don't drive the truck much at night in the winter) This thread has talked me into it (until I see the price tag)



As for the fog lights, in my 98 I replaced the bulbs with higher wattage ones I found at Pepboys. within weeks I had 2 brown spots on the plastic lenses. Not sure if my 02 sport has glass fog light lenses or plastic.

I don't know, maybe you guys just think the PIAA's are to expensive?? I am not sure, but they are very much better then the stockers, and better then the silver stars. I guess i would have to question your resolve on improving the night time vission of your truck. The PIAA's are the way to go, but everyone wants to dance around them tring other things, I would much rather spend a little more and have good lights. Also yes PIAA again, sells replacement lamps for the factoy fog lights, and yes again they work very well.

They had a $10 rebate on the silver stars at autozone. I can,t believe I drove around with those dingy lights as long as I did. . Dodge told me there headlight units on the 2nd gen, yellow out and should be replaced after 4 years. They fade out so slow you don't notice. I was turing my lights on and off to see if they were on .

Used with a Brite Box

Has anyone used the Sylvania bulbs with a Brite Box?



If so, does the headlight enclosure handle the added heat OK and have you noticed if the life sapn of the buld is reduced?

Thanks guys for the replys. I went back to Wal-mart and bought them. They have a blue tint to the bulb. Anyway I'll put them in and try 'em. I hope they last longer than a year. I have original stock headlite bulbs from new. The part number on Silverstars are 9004ST2 for two headlite system like I have. Kinda sucks for you guys with the Quad headlites you need four for over 60 bucks but boy I bet you sure can turn nite to daylight.

I have been trying to get this to work for some time, would you mind telling me how you got all 8 to light at once. I bought a fancy wiring harness from a company that said it would do it but alas they don't work. I think it takes 3 relays to do it, but then again I am not very good with electricty. I have an 01 sport if it matters.
