Competition Ohio Drag Race!!!

Competition Sled Hitch...

Well we had a pull here in Turlock CA last night. I got half way down the track bouncing all the way, then all of the sudden I slowed down real quick, the transfer case granaded and I pulled another 10 feet in two wheel drive. The front yoke on the front drive shaft is broke an ear off, the universal joint is missing in action, but the straps that hold it in the pumpkin yoke are still there and screwed in not tight however. The transfer case is broken in half like it exsploded. if it wasn't for the chain I could pull the front drive shaft out with half of the T-Case attached :( I knew it would go this year, I have been waiting to upgrade that Light Duty one.

Any idea's for the upgrade ? I am thinking I might just go with the 241DHD as it should bolt right up. Is there anything else out there that is tougher and proven that would be a pita to install ? any upgrades to the 241DHD that have to be done ?

Thanks guy's

Dang I hate to hear that but like you said, it's not going to last! I was thinking about that on your last pull event when it was bouncing and you lost the front U-joint.

All kinds of things would be a PITA to install:D but I think I know what you meant.

I think with some parts swapping you could build a NP 205 that would bolt in. I'm not sure though, I've just looked at spline counts and shaft dia. on the web.

Maybe a 2 1/2 ton truck t-case from someone like Boyce? Most likely not a bolt in though.

you know you have to change out the shaft and yoke [non issue as you broke yours] as the size is larger in the 241 DHD

suggest a wrecking yard for the parts [like the dodge truck yard in Sacramento]. .

IMHO the DHD will be enough as not many are breaking and are cheep [relatively :)] through Transfer Case Express in Oakland,Ca. [the place Chris turned us on to a couple years ago]

also will need the shifter lever out of the wrecking yard IF memory serve me correct. . call Brandon he has my old one and the parts in his rig.

What transfer case was it that broke? The stock 241HD? Sounds like some serious carnage.

You run front dirveshaft loops right? Sounds like it since you mentioned nothing of the DL bashing into the oil pan when it broke. Hope that doesn't put you out of the running for Willow Springs in Sept.

Your right Hoss, its always something, that's why I keep asking myself why am I pulling again :G

Gary I called TCE in Oakland today and the 271 is actully a little cheaper then the 241DHD but since I have no trade in it's only like $100. 00 more. They can even build it with a flange on the rear to eliminate the slip yoke, any problems with the rear shaft you unbolt it and drive in front wheel drive. If I go this route I am sure I will have to make a custom crossmember for it to sit on. I am also going to look at upgrading the front drive shaft to the 1480 series like I did the rear.

JGheen, I am actully looking at trying to have it up and running by the Ukiah pull on the 14th of this month.
