Off Roading Another Praire question

Competition Guess who I met at Talladega...

Two questions in one thread if I can.

1. ) How far will the 'stock' (in dash) tach read? Meaning is it possible that it just barries at 3900? and just won't read any further?

2. ) What are my options for adding another tach? Electronic or Mechanical? I would prefer a mech. as they have always been more accurate but I am unsure as to how one would need to be hooked up on the cummins.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

TIA

I think the '97's will read alot more. I think they can point straight done, indicating upwards of 5,000RPM.

I have a Monster Tach made by Autometer just for our Diesels. It has an optical pickup, and reads up to 6,000RPM. Fits pretty good. I use it to cover the factory tach, it's mounted to the steering column.
