Well it finally happened, I hairlipped a tailgate with a trailer. Any suggestions for replacements? Aftermarket flowthru, junk yard or back to the stealer. BTW 01 1ton 4x4:{
Hold your breath before you ask for the dealer price and it isn't even painted! Flowthru will be the cheapest since junkyards know what a new one goes for. There are a lot of new tailgates laying around that have been replaced with flowthrus, if you can find one it will probably be the best bet. Try the TDR classifieds.
I've also got a '97 tailgate from a 3500. Never been used. It is Driftwood and Black with lights. If anyone is interested, get in touch. I am in Southern California. Not a scratch on it, Perfect.
I'm about as far from Colorado and California as you can get in the continental US, but I'm interested in a tailgate. E-mail me at -- email address removed -- with price Thanks!
Hit my tail gait last summer with the gooseneck going through a deep ditch. Are they even remotely repairable?? Maybe I could get by with a set of those bed rails. If anybody has one that's off a '98 or so that's the dark red or candy apple red (not cherry red) color, let me know. It should have a few scratches or else it won't fit the rest of the truck.
The 2nd gen tailgate is inherently flimsier than the 1st gen. The second gen uses lighter guage metal and less reinforcing. My 89 tailgate was solid as a rock after 13 years of hard use, but my 94 is cracked at both ends. The only advantage a second gen tailgate has over a first gen is that it's easier to carry after you take it off!!
Knowing that adding reinforcement to a thin guage tailgate only postpones the inevitable, I need a red one my self, but mine is the plain old fire-engine red color!
I've had good luck buying beds that are take off's from people that put on a utility, or a flat bed... Last on I bought included the lights, and tailgate... . $350... seemed like a good price, since I was only looking for a tailgate also. .
Just got a quote from a local body shop for a new tailgate. Not a dodge but a quality replacement part. Minimum of $850!!!!:--) Needless to say still looking for a take off or salvage yard part. If I have to go that way has anyone had any experience with the aftermarket parts?
While I am looking for a good used replacement tailgate, I hate to leave the back open. Has anyone got suggestions for a good flow thru type tailgate and where to get one. Thanks in advance!Oo.
Surely there are some others out there that have purchased replacement tailgates. Do you like the V type or the straight type? Where did you get them and how was the quality?
