taller tires for duallys

I am looking to put a 34" tall tire on my 04. 5 dually to offset my 4. 10 gears. I have searched high and low to no avail,every tire that is that tall is also to wide for 6" wide rims. The only way to do this is either have my rims widend or make the move to 19. 5 rims and tires,both very expensive. Please somebody make a taller tire for us dually guys. I know I am not alone in this request.

Wow, I just went to taller tires with my 3. 73's to lower the RPM's. I put BFG mud terrain KM2's on the stock rims. Size 255/80/17 and they look anf fit great. I installed a level kit after the tires were on. They never rubbed without the lift either. This was the only tire made that I could find. They are over 33" tall. I did install a small 3/16" spacer even though it didn't look like it needed it between the rears. The tires are very quiet, I was suprised.

I was aware of the km2's but did not want that aggresive of a tread. How much did your rpm's drop and how do they ride.

I don't know about the RPM but they are 2" taller than the 235's. They ride the same or better than the stock all seasons that I had. If you rode in the truck and didn't know they were MT's, you would not be able to tell. I was leary about that just like you. I ordered them from Discount Tire. I am very happy with them I run Goodyear MTR's on my Jeep. Now those sound like a mud tire.

Can anyone tell me how to put the truck info tag at the bottom of the posts. I went to the user control panel and saved it there but it is not showing up.

I just got the truck at the end of October 09. I have done the tires, the level kit, it has a rear Mag Hytec, I have a mag hytec for the front and I bought an edge juice with attitude with the gauges, just haven't got them in yet. This is my 6th Dodge/Cummins since 96, they really grow on you.

Sounds sweeet,I know what you mean about them growing on you. I have 4 collectable/hot rod dodges and plymouths and have not touched them since I bought my truck. Appreciate the info and I'll talk at you later.

I had the BFG M/T tires on my Ford trucks. They are VERY quiet, ride and wear well. Same goes for the Cooper S/T.

Hey Kelly,looks awesome. I would just be afraid of putting that wide of a tire on a 6" rim. Did you have to put a spacer between the rears.

Going from 235/80/17 to 255/80/17 should net you a 4. 5% drop in rpms, or about 100 rpms at 75mph.

2 in spacers, i run 45 lb of air in the rear and 50 lb in the front !!!

I have an 03 dually that I have been running a 2. 5" spacer between rear tires from the time the truck got to 35k miles untill now and the truck currently has 150K plus miles. I have pulled lots of large loads and never had any issues. I have also had multiple different brands of tires on the truck and found the first set of over sizes tires I put on the truck to be the best so far. Those tires where 35x12. 5 bfg mud ter. kms I think. what ever to older mud tire pattern is for bfg. (I think you can still get this style as well as the new style. ) However the first set of bfgs where E load range and I took them off the truck after 48Kmiles of use. By the way prior to purchasing the first set of bfgs I looked every where for a mildly agressive all ter or mud tire in a 34" tall and narrow design and could only find super swamper ltbs in a 34x10x17r. However,I put a couple sets of super swampers on the truck before putting on a second set of the same style bfgs, except in a D load range and in a 285series. I got 43k miles out of the second set however I started having death wobble issues with those tires once they had 35k of wear on them and I am convinced that the lighter load range was the cause of the death wobble because it has not ocurred since changing the tires to a set of pro com xtreme all ter that I currently have on the truck in a 305 E laod range. I had completly replaced every possible part in the front end of the truck just prior to taking the bfg d load range tires off and was still having death wobble issues. Sorry about the rambling just thought I would give my 2 cents and maybe it will help you from making same mistake I did in choosing a tire. I can't comment on the durabiilty of the pro comps yet but they ride the best of all the tires I have had on the truck besides the factory set and are definatley more economical than prices I was recently quoted for bfgs.
