I have finally made the prototype air darns, as I mentioned a few months ago (been busy since). I still haven't mounted the driving lights yet. They should make it look better, so use some imagination.

I intend to sell these to MEMBERS ONLY, to help us spot each other coming down the road. They are very subtle, yet dress-up the front end quite a bit (pictures don't do them justice).

I will offer them with 2 different hole patterns (wide/narrow), so the buyer can decide (those with front license plates need the wider pattern). They will be offered with a few different hole sizes to fit various driving lights (supplied by the buyer). (I chose PIAA 004X lights).

They are made of highly polished stainless steel. They are intended for 2nd generation, non-sport trucks. They will bolt-up to existing O. E. plastic air dams, using 3 (s. s. ) carriage bolts and nylock nuts (supplied). (If you don't already have the factory installed plastic dam, they can be purchased from a dealer for around $30).

I think the price will be $50 each ($25 for material, $10 for cutting, $5 for mounting hardware, and $10 for shipping in continental U. S. ).

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

Help Posting Pictures

Can someone help me post pictures, or a link. I took them with a digital camera, not real high resolution. They are JPG's about 75k, each - Must be less than 32k to attach.

Anybody?

boonsur,

e-mail the pics, I can reduce them and send them back to you or post them for you.

Try to zip them if you can.

Nice Job...

Those look great. What about cut outs for those of us with tow hooks? What is the diameter of the PIAA lights you mentioned? Sam

I would to try theses. Let's hook up... .

Did anybody else besides me find the topic funny? Air Darn :) At least we will all know what product we are talking about.

Anyway, I have seen this piece on "boonsur's" truck. It really looks much better in person. He has done an excellent job at making this thing look like an OEM piece.

I personally am going to install one without light holes. Maybe later I'll think about throwing some down there, but the funds are kind of tight right now (what else is new  ), and I perfer a little cleaner look.

Boonsur seems to think it is a little too flashy without the lights in there to break it up. We'll see.

Congrats on a great product.

I have young kids - thought darn would be more appropriate (& easier to find in a search). Oh sure, you probably use that other word for a heck-a-copter.

Anyway, thanks for the posts. If the quantites get high enough (120 or more), I start really saving money on material & set-up fees. The above prices are based on quantites of 10. I would like to get a feel for how many people would be interested, before I buy a bunch of stock to get a reduced price. (May be a little cheaper).

In an earlier post, someone asked about front hitches. I think it would be hard to put a hole in, that would work with the various receivers being used. However, the tow hooks should be in the same location, from truck to truck. If there is enough interest (a couple of people), I will measure the factory locations, and offer the plates with a cutout there. (I think they're marked on the plastic dam).

I made the holes in my prototypes 2-3/8 dia. The 004X PIAA lights fit this perfectly. I think PIAA makes one of the best lights. I was particularly interested in this model because of the "spot" light pattern (wouldn't shine into oncoming traffic). These lights have 55W bulbs. Kit costs about $150.

I have received a few CATZ lights from FET to measure. It looks like the XSL lights will fit the same holes as the PIAA's. There is also just (barely) enough room to put holes that are big enough for the MSC lights (although the porportions would look a bit different). I can put just about any size hole in the plates, based on popular lights people want to use (let me know what lights you are interested in).

After I get some more feedback, I will work up an order form & try to get some out there for people to try.
