Guy's, On my 2000 the190 mark is strait up the 240 mark is to the right, there is a mark half way between those to, what is the temp at that point ? 210/220 and shouldn't I have heard the fan by then Thank's Don
I can hear my fan come on quite often and it never gets above 180 or so! Do you hear the fan belt chirp when the engine is hot and you shut-down? If not you probably need a new fan clutch. My 2 cents. Jeremy
With a 190 degF thermostat in the cooling system, the fan clutch on my truck will generally kick in around 195 degF or so. (Edit - I only see these temps when towing our 13,500 lb 36' 5th wheel RV).
Mine will run 190 all the time. When towing it can go to the 205 or 210 area. Just guessing on those. It has never gone to half way mark between 190 and 240.
I figure the half way marks above and below the 190 mark to be about 25 degrees away from 190. Meaning the one above to = 215 and the one below to = 165. I'm not sure if that is 100% accurate but it seems that those marks are pretty much in the middle of 190 to 240 and 190 down to 140.
I hear my fan kick on when I'm about 1 needle width above 190, much sooner than 215.
