I was lucky enough to find a campaign $70 lift pump under my Christmas tree this year, courtesy of my son who also got one for himself. I'm at 130,000 on the original and the pressures are acceptable on the mechanical pressure gauge he got me last year, but I know I need to ready for the switch when the BD pressure LED lights up.

In looking over the pump, I found that the electrical connection on the is a "plug-in" type. My current pump connects via spade connectors to two posts on the pump. I've read in this thread that others have solved this situation with an "adapter", which I assume converts the spade connectors to the proper plug.

I've read all through the thread several times but can find no info on where to get the "adapter". Help, please.

PS -- After typing all this, I received an email from Mike in California with some suggested sources, but any others would be welcomed.

The adapter is a Cummins part... go there and give them your info off the engine data plate, and tell them you have their pump and need the adapter... costs about $7 IIRC... I just gave mine away.

JKinney,

The Pump Campaign that provided the cheaper pumps may be over now.

I do have two of them in stock, and am selling one to my friend, but informed him to order a vulcan kit first. I will be converting to a different pump when I loose my current pump.

What Should the Intank Retrofit LP cost

Guys,

I just had my original replaced after 45K miles. It just died on the road one day. a few days previous I had heard a higher pitch wine form my turbo. I thought something was frozen. I could hear it at 1500rpm, and around 2000rpm.

Any how they replaced the old style lift pump with the in tank version and said some wiring had to be run etc. I tried to get it under the 100K mile warranty but they wouldn't because of my mods. They said they now have to send in codes when replacing parts. I don't think the lift pump sends codes but I have had others from the TST I have.

I have a bitter taste being stuck, needing a pump and not having installed a FASS, Air Dog or Glacier because of the timing.

The cost would have been about the same. Does this sound right to you guys?

I thought the newer trucks had the HPCR pump, don't know what kind of lift pump you have, thought you had a different pump than the 98. 5-2002 trucks did.

It only took 3 months but Cummins actualy refunded my money on my pump. I forget what the requirements were but I think it was: Have invoice for the pump, you have 6 or 9 months from purchase date ant there was a milage requirement, provide engine serian number. I gave them the actual serial number from my truck. Give it a shot.

Well after searching for this part here locally in Houston, they are $161. 37. In California they are $64. 97, but they wont ship it to Houston, I was told that they wont ship parts to other Cummins dealers areas. So I called around and found a Dealer that will, call Steven at 901-345 3270. $70 plus shipping and he will ship anywhere.

70 Dollar pump

Hitec. Redneck

Can this pump be used in tandem on an 02 that has a retrofitted Intank liftpump?

If so, where would it mount? Ever since the dealer "upgraded" my lift pump, I get a whopping 6psi at idle and close to 0 at WOT.

lift pump

will the 70 dollars pay for a 03 pump??? im not sure what year your talking about here . . i assume this pump will mount on the side of the engine and not in the fuel tank right radar doctor???

It almost stopped me from buying the Dodge. I looked up the Ford and Chevy and didn't find anything close to the number of problems I read about on the TDR. Then a good friend of mine sold me on the Cummins, I joined the TDR, and man am I glad I did. :D

i would lots rather replace aq vp44 than drive a pos gm or power chicken and as far as not finding anything close to the problems with ford and gm its becuz there owners are so full of shyte that they wont post problems they actually have take a look in the ne diesel power in the readers rides about the guy that replaced one power chicken with another and because of engine and transmission failure and it didnt even have 200k on it. my friend drives a maxi pad and hes put way more work into the front end of his truck than i have either of my dodges and i have over 100k more miles

I just purchased the kit from my local Cummins dealer Friday and paid $64. 90 pus tax. No questions asked. They are selling fast as on Monday they had 14 kits and Friday they had 3. I bought 2 of them. Another gentelman was in there getting ready to buy the high dollar one and I showed him this one and he told them to take back the high dollar one and give him this one. :-laf This was his 3rd pump in a year.

do these pumps have any warranty on them?

You can mount the Carter pump in series with the intank. I've been running mine for a year like that and so far so good. The pressure was a little high running both pumps together (24 to 26 psi) so I added a relief valve and adjusted it to 13. 5 psi.

As far as where to mount the Carter. . you could just put it back where it was in the first place. DC installs a block (manifold) where the Carter use to be so they can use the exsisting plumbing. Remove the block and put the pump back. Everything will bolt right up. You're problem will be in the wiring. DC took the wiring from the OEM pump and sent it to the intank. I just moved it back to the Carter and used a relay and switch (in the cab) to run the in-tank pump.

I have about 12K miles on this system with no problems (not counting gauge/isolator gliches!). Pressure holds a steady 13. 5psi under normal driving and I can't get it under 12psi no matter what. I chose to relocate the Carter down on the frame so swapping pumps will be a snap. In-tank pumps are typically very reliable but I have a spare for it also. Wouldn't that job be a PITA along the side of the road!!!!!!

I found this earlier in the post:
Part Number 4090046 Price $64. 90.
I did NOT need an engine number but I did some digging around and found a valid BlueBird Bus engine number that you can use if you get a distributor that requires it. Engine # 56561524 This is a 1999 manufacture date 250 Encore ISB 5. 9 Cummins engine. [/U]

I got one from my local Blue Bird Bus dealer. $75. The local Cummins dealer wanted $159. 95. I asked him why and he said it just is and wanted to when I got the $75 pump. I told him about an hour ago. He told me he can't sell them for the same price. . What a bunch of BS. . The pump I got from Blue Bird says Cummins on it... . I wonder what Blue Bird paid for it?

Not in Texas

I tried to buy them from Cummins Southern Plains in North Texas and it is $161. 00. #@$%! Said not able to sell it for $6X. 00, that the pump itself cost $151. 00. #@$%! Called California and it was $6X. 00, but would not sell outside of Cali, due to territorial agreements. Anyone willing to buy 3 and sell them to me? Help Send me a PM

Weird I guess it was 2 years ago maybe less just after we learned about the campaign pump being available. I was in Las Vegas and went to Cummins and they sold me 2 of the pumps. When I told them I was from Arizona they just looked up the proper Arizona state tax to charge me for the pump. Sounds to me like these territorial agreement was their out to not sell you the pumps. But things change and maybe there is now territorial agreements in effect. I kind of doubt it though. Just keep trying other Cummins dealer until you find one that has the 3 pumps you need and will ship to you. I bet you will after awhile. Wish I could help but where I live right now no close Cummins dealers.
