hello all

some of you might remember a thread posted earlier about the 70 dollar lift pump I tried to order one and and when the cummins dealer found out it was personal use the price went up to 200 dollars I had to order any ways cause lift pump #6

is going bad, I got the kit today and it is geared towards Buses, comes with a fuel pressure sending unit and a protected harness for the sending unit to the gauge and really nice instructions as well as the banjo fitting rings. My comments then a few questions. I am going to Assume that even at 70 dollars cummins still makes a profit margin. It is the same pump I have purchased in the past with a few more extras. Questions Why would cummins not give us the same price deal??? Has anyone corresponded with big wigs at cummins and if so could you share the address with me I feel a letter writing spree comming on.

The lift pump gets put on the frame rail with the vulcan big line kit today.

thanks in advance

The answer I got when I ask Cummins why those with p/u's were not included in this campaign was that "we" have the Dodge warranty and Dodge has total say! As far as you having the same pump I don't think so. When you get it installed you will hear that this pump goes from a high pumping sound to a low pumping sound and the pressure does not change one lb or mine don't per my cab gage and my gage under the hood. Maybe this is the 'improved pump" nevertheless it works great. :D

Cummins has just released a Service/Parts topic for "New Fuel Lift Pump" for all ISB applications.

The Service/Parts topic states:

"This Service/Parts Topic announces the release on new fuel lift pumps for the ISB & QSB VP44 series engines. The new fuel lift pump, Part Number 4932707, obsolete and supersede the previous fuel lift pumps (Parts Number 3990105). The new fuel lift pump has a internal bypass circuit in the rotor housing that allows fuel to be drawn, with less restriction, from the fuel tank to the fuel injection pump in the event of an inoperable fuel lift pump. There are no visual differences between the new fuel lift pump and the old fuel lift pump. The new fuel lift pump can only be identified by the part number. "

The price of these new pumps will be close to the same price of the 3990082/3990105. The 4932707 is the liftpump out of the 4090046 kit.

I have had 6 lift pumps this is #7 (4090046 kit) This pump you say has an internal by pass on the rotor circuit just so we are on the same page when you say rotor circuit you mean the electrical side ??? right

thank you for your input

leaving for the garage right now to move to the frame rail at the tank and a vulcan big line kit hopefully this is the last swap out

Chris, I'm hoping and pretty confident that after the relocate and big line kit this will be the last replacement but if it turns out not to be. You will be so glad you moved the pump. It turns into about a ten minute job to slap a new one in. I bought a couple of cheapy vise grips so I can pinch off the fuel lines and avoid the diesel bath.

If its the same pump the why in the world did the part number change??? It still from same vendor right? (carter) Something must be different.

Maybe the guy ment its still the same GPH at the same PSI, intended to fit the same engine, but now it might last longer or not do so much damage when it does quit.

Whats up with the VP replacement part of those instructions? Do some of us have known bad Injection pumps?

Am I the only one still wondering why we can't get the pump for $70 and not accepting the answer "We have the Dodge warranty and Dodge has final say". Sounds like BS to me - "we" (guys like me with over 100k miles) don't all have the warranty. So if the warranty is expired why can not we get the $70 pump???.

wouldn't a couple of lift pumps make the cost of a FASS system worth it?

Having read threads in regards to fass preasure springs, motor brushes warranty issues, technical support I dont know if its worth it. :(

;) Having been in the Automotive industry for 15 years, I know that if a fly farts on the part, someone wants a part # change! It could be as simple as Carter found a new less expensive housing supplier to use. There is constant pressure to reduce price in the automotive industry. Some of the time, the cost of the documentation to make a change costs more than the overall savings of the change. just FYI!

I had spring issues, but since that issue was fixed... around 15k and loving it.

I have a question. Several have mentioned the Vulcan "Big Line" relocation kit, but has anyone tried the relocation kit from Geno's Garage? I was wondering how they compared.

The kit from Geno's is 3/8". From Vulcan is 1/2". The Geno's kit supposedly only goes to the filter housing. The Vulcan 1/2" goes all the way to the IP.

Hey my FASS is still crankin' after 35,000.

And in another lite is thousands of fass units were and have been sold. I bet if EVERY owner had posted then I am willing to bet that it's a positive experience. People sometimes post to complain or reach out for answers. Just look at customer service hotlines. Ever call whirlpool to tell them what a fantastic washing machine they made? Or drop by Home Depot to ... O. K bad example.

AHA . . Look at our trucks. Plagued with issues. Heck if you were an outsider looking into TDR land you would freak out at vp44 failures and balljoints , trannies , clutches , 3rd gen injection , water leaks , headlight switches , flat seats , surging cruise control , mileage , not to mention how we feel about dealership practices and whatnot ... but it's worth it :-laf ;)

It almost stopped me from buying the Dodge. I looked up the Ford and Chevy and didn't find anything close to the number of problems I read about on the TDR. Then a good friend of mine sold me on the Cummins, I joined the TDR, and man am I glad I did. :D

Kit price

I just purchased the kit from my local Cummins dealer Friday and paid $64. 90 pus tax. No questions asked. They are selling fast as on Monday they had 14 kits and Friday they had 3. I bought 2 of them. Another gentelman was in there getting ready to buy the high dollar one and I showed him this one and he told them to take back the high dollar one and give him this one. :-laf This was his 3rd pump in a year.

I could no longer take the excitement of this thread, I called my local cummins dealer, asked for parts, then asked for price and availability of part # ... . he said whos this? I gave him the name of my landscaping company, and he said yes we do, $64. 90 Im headed in in the am. Yes I would like to buy every one on the shelf! but I don't want to raise any eyebrows... .
