Hey guys

I dont suppose that since I started this post and was not able to get the 70. 00 pump

one of my tdr brothers might help out and cough up 1 for a spare. at the cheap price

please please

chris

I too would love to have one of these new $64 pumps to carry as a spare. My original is still doing great. Local Cummins outlet wants nearly $200 for the new P/N Kit. Anyone willing to part with one of theirs?

Thanks,

Mick

Mick, just keep calling different suppliers until you find one that charges $64. I called one, $200, next one $64. You'll have to spend a few bucks to ship but that's really nothing for the money you'll save. Good luck,

Tom,

I tried twice and failed. :( I had success at Rocky Mtn. Cummins in El Paso

1-800-800-4240. Part Number 4090046 Price $64. 90. Oo.

I did NOT need an engine number but I did some digging around and found a valid BlueBird Bus engine number that you can use if you get a distributor that requires it. Engine # 56561524 This is a 1999 manufacture date 250 Encore ISB 5. 9 Cummins engine. :-laf

Here is the official NTHSA Recall on the transfer pumps:

Production Dates: Not Determined 05E-007

Model(s): Cummins ISB diesel engines equipped with Federal-Mogal 12 and 24 volt fuel lift pumps for use in certain school buses, transit buses, and emergency vehicles.

Recall Description: The fuel pump could fail to transfer fuel appropriately creating an engine stall condition. Should the engine stall while the vehicle is in use, a possible vehicle crash could occur.

Remedy: Customers will be notified by Cummins to bring their vehicles to an authorized dealer to have the fuel lift pump replaced free of charge.

This problem has been the cause of several VP44 injection pump failures so I wonder why Dodge isn't notifying US of the recall too?

Try calling Cummins Cal Pacific in El Cajon, ask for Fred. #619-593-3093 They get 'em out of Irvine and may just ship them to you upon request.

I wish I would have read this yesterday. I put a new pump on a customers truck yesterday-3990082. It had 30k miles on it. The new one still did not have good pressure, (3-4 psi WOT, lucky for 8 psi cruising) no air in the system. After doing a search I read about Dodges in the tank set up. Thats worse-lucky to get 7-8, normally 5 and as low as 2 WOT. I wonder if piggybacking one of the new numbers would work?

If I had purchased a new pump and the numbers were that low, I would send the pump back under warranty

Should I expect more from the in tank set up? (I did) I was told it would only make 8 but stay steady. I am picking up another Cummins pump tommorrow AM. At this point I plan on piggybacking them (I don't really want to pull the tank again).

I got the new number pump kit this morning. Took some begging but got it for $65. Will post Monday how piggybacking goes.

Just ordered two from cummins with the $6x price! No questions asked. Looking forward to mounting a new one up to the vulcanperformance kit when the weather gets a bit warmer out here!

The 2nd for my spare ISB on a pallet (without LP) in the driveway... . :)

Update, they arrived two days later!! (Cummins New England in Albany NY)

Low pressure switch looks interesting and easy to setup. Grounds signal when closed. It will be a nice wiring project to add when I get the remote mounting kit from vulcan.

OK, here is the deal. . if you are told it is more than $65, tell them you were told by Cummins that it should be around $65... have them check with Cummins... I just got two for $65/each from the place that quoted me $210/each last week.

I ran the new pump along with the in tank pump today. So far so good. Solid 15 psi, drops to 14 on WOT uphill. I can handle that. Hopefully it lasts, he's leaving for Arizonia tomorrow AM.

thanks mick2500

Just ordered 2 liftpumps (of 6 that were in stock) @ the affore mentioned price/from your source/ thanks again for the info. / w

Great! Part Number 4090046

Mine arrived yesterday from El Paso. Now I'm looking for a way to integrate the low pressure warning switch that came in the kit. I've searched the wiring diagrams and it appears both pin 15 and pin 5 on our ECM's are used for other functions.

Anyone know how we can turn on the Check Engine Lamp with this pressure switch?

You could easily have it turn the water in fuel light on... or simply add another small LED in the cab.

Steve,

That is a GREAT idea on using an existing circuit. ;) I investigated the Water In Fuel warning circuit and eliminated that one since it uses a separate Ground signal supplied by the ECM.

The Washer Reservoir Low circuit is Perfect! 2001. 5 Volume 1, Pages 8W-40-4 and 8W-80-77. I will splice the fuel pressure sender output to Pin #1 (Circuit G29 18Ga Blk/Wht wire) of the Reservoir switch connector. It works on the normal chassis ground and needs to be switched to ground for approximately 60 seconds before lighting the warning text on the dashboard. This should give me plenty of time to start the engine and have fuel pressure up. I 'may' just disconnect the reservoir switch from the circuit altogether and just use my fuel pressure sender as the only ground to that circuit. :-laf

Thanks,

Mick

3/16/06 UPDATE: I just finished wiring the low pressure warning switch into my Windshield washer level alarm. I could NOT find an easy source for the factory Metri Pack 150 Series connectors so I just cut a ring of insulation off the Blk/Wht wire on the washer reservoir level sensor harness. Connected the new sensor to this wire. With ignition ON engine OFF, LOW WASH warning chime and amber text on dash in 45 seconds. Start or 'bump' engine and the warning lamp does NOT come on. I'm thinking this is a pretty good way to use the pressure sensor that came in the new 'Campaign' pump box. :-laf Pressure at the VP44 is 14. 5 Idle and 10'ish WOT. Stock Lift Pump is still in use.

This is the new Dodge in-tank pump that you're running along with the engine mounted pump? I was wondering if that combo would work or not. Just had a friend get his LP done under warranty and they went with the in-tank pump. Was looking for solutions for getting the pressure back up.
