2001 jeep wrangler automatic - help

Expedition help!

Have you considered the Passat? AFAIK, it's supposed to get better mileage due to the use of DEF, which is not used in the Golf or Jetta. CU reports a real-world 51 MPG highway mileage.

You get a stick or auto ? and From what I have seen the Lie O Meter is pretty darn close alot better then our truck's

Also on price they really don't come off asking price because they know they will get it on our's we got free Maint. n 6-60,000

Stick.

Hit a high of 43 mpg last night tooling around, coming back this morning I set cruise at 81mph. Still returned a respectable 39 mpg.

That is not my normal speed, usually 73 or so is what we run.

Also, the thing was TIGHT. It had 40 miles on the odometer when I left the lot with it last night. I'm sure the fuel mileage will improve once things start to roll a bit easier.

Yes, wife and I are wondering if we should move up to the Passat. Two things holding me back, increase in price and lack of any 6 speed TDI's. Every Passat up here seems to have the DSG transmission.

Mine has been getting 36++ over the course of several tanks hand calculated around here.

If it were one tank, I'd say it was a fluke.

This has been since I owned it! Almost 37 MPG's is unheard of IMO.

This is combined around town and a little bit of highway. From 0 to 80 MPH.

All observed (except two) shifts are @ or around 2K RPM's. Obviously no high RPM blasts. (except two)

I've had it up to 4K RPM + once or twice in those figures. (that's where the trans shifts it in auto it seems)

Pretty remarkable little machine. Torquey as all getup. :-laf

Yeah after driving the truck I jump into the car and it's a little Rocket on wheel's very fun car to drive intown and it has saved us Alot of fuel compared to driving the truck all the time

Brought home a 2012 passat TDI SEL yesterday. So far i am loving it. Cant wait to see how it does with some miles on it. Everybody is telling me that they are getting better than advertised mileage which is great.

Texas where I live uses a procedure known as chip seal to reseal black topped highways every summer. It is basically a procedure involving spreading a thin tar mix over the road surface then spreading a very thin film of 1/4" rock. The procedure preserves highways for many years of good service under heavy traffic but creates roadways with a course surface which creates road noise for cars driving on it.

Some cars and trucks do a better job than others with isolating road noise and preventing cabin noise. Hondas, for example, are great cars but they do tend to transmit road noise on chip sealed highways.

How do VW TDIs perform on course surface highways? Do they transmit or isolate road noise?

I don't believe it would be anywhere near as bad as the over grown beer car of the Honda's we have been on some very rough road's and so far it's pretty nice A word of Warning Do Not place any small piece's of paper in the glove box the air system will suck it into the blower motor put them in a envelope or something to hold them

#@$%! Don't ask me how I know this and a warning the Dealer will charge 180 . 00+ to fix your problem:rolleyes:

Is that because the glove box is cooled?????

Mike. :)

I've read that the glove compartments of VWs are cooled.

Sam, glad to hear the VW has at least "good" sound insulation.

I have a 2002 Jetta TDI five speed manual, it has been hotroded quite a bit. 157 HP at the rear wheels, no pollution stuff left, changed injectors, turbo, stage 3 tune in it, it still gets almost 50MPG if driven sanely. Bilstien coil overs, after market sway bars, all Audi TT steering and suspension components, corner balanced. It is a hoot in the corners, not many cars stick with me in the windy stuff.
